Mar 23, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/592643
Inventors:
Philip J. Ehrhart - Narvon PA
Stanley J. Makofka - New Holland PA
Kenneth W. McLean - New Holland PA
Assignee:
Sperry Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 5518, A01D 35264
US Classification:
56 136
Abstract:
A disc mower-conditioner having a disc cutterbar with transversely spaced rotatable disc cutters to sever standing crop material by an impact action and a rotatable conditioning mechanism mounted rearwardly of the cutterbar to receive and condition severed crop material is disclosed wherein each disc cutter member is provided with a crop lifting ramp portion adjacent the peripheral edge of the disc cutter adjacent each knife in both leading and trailing relationships thereto. The inclined ramp portions are operable to lift previously severed crop material away from the corresponding knife before the knife severs standing crop material and to feed the severed crop material into the conditioning mechanism. The inclined ramp portions are provided on both sides of the knives to permit the disc cutter member to be rotatable in either clockwise or counterclockwise directions and still provide a leading crop lifting action. The leading inclined ramp portions can be provided with replaceable wear members to extend the operative life of the disc cutter member.

Swivel Hitch With Improved Mounting Of Lower Gearbox

US Patent:
5186271, Feb 16, 1993
Filed:
May 31, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/708652
Inventors:
Kenneth W. McLean - New Holland PA
Assignee:
Ford New Holland, Inc. - New Holland PA
International Classification:
B60D 100, B60K 2508
US Classification:
180 144
Abstract:
A primary drive line for delivering power from a power-take-off (pto) shaft on a tractor to an input shaft on an implement includes a swivel hitch comprised of an upper gearbox and a lower gearbox. The upper gearbox is fastened to a pair of spaced apart, upper vertical plates carried on a tongue extending forwardly from the implement, and the lower gearbox is fastened to a pair of spaced apart, lower vertical plates carried by a yoke assembly that is attached to the tractor. An output shaft on the upper gearbox is coupled to the implement input shaft. The lower gearbox has two shafts, the first of which is coupled to an input shaft on the upper gearbox. The second shaft on the lower gearbox is connected to the tractor pto shaft. The lower gearbox is mounted by using bushings with rubber inserts which permit limited repositioning of the lower gearbox with respect to the yoke assembly in order to compensate for any misalignment of the lower gearbox first shaft when coupling it to the upper gearbox input shaft.

Disc Mower Conditioner

US Patent:
5778647, Jul 14, 1998
Filed:
Jun 25, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/670060
Inventors:
Kenneth W. McLean - New Holland PA
Steven J. Campbell - New Holland PA
Assignee:
New Holland North America, Inc. - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 3403
US Classification:
56 136
Abstract:
A disc mower conditioner utilizing a modular disc cutterbar to sever standing crop material by impact action supports the cutterbar from the header of the mower conditioner by a pair of transversely spaced support arms mounted by spherical bushings to the header to allow flexing of the support arms as induced by the cutterbar. The mounting of the spherical bushings utilize conical washers engagable with conical sockets in spacers to limit vertical movement of the spacer relative to the header when the corresponding support arm flexes. The mower conditioner header further includes an optional viney crop guide that has a curved leading edge that directs viney crop downwardly into engagement with the adjacent disc cutter. The viney crop guide is also bent inwardly to contain and control the flow of crop material. The mower conditioner swathboard includes a position control mechanism that incorporates a positive down stop in the form of a pin riding within a corresponding slotted opening in an associated bracket to prevent the swathboard from coming into an inadvertent engagement with the conditioning rolls.

Safety Lock For Agricultural Windrower Or The Like

US Patent:
4202422, May 13, 1980
Filed:
Aug 23, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/936161
Inventors:
Kenneth W. McLean - New Holland PA
Assignee:
Sperry Rand Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
B62D 1102, B60R 2114
US Classification:
180 648
Abstract:
A safety lock for an agricultural windrower and/or conditioner comprising a self-propelled machine having a pair of drive wheels respectively powered by individual hydraulic motors each powered by separate hydraulic pumps driven by a fuel powered motor, the pumps being variable for driving the motors at desired speeds and directions to comprise a hydrostatic steering system for said machine, said pumps being variable by a rotatable steering wheel, and a speed control level also is movable to cause actuation of both pumps equally and also actuates lock pins which secure the steering wheel in neutral position. The safety feature is effected by the speed control lever being biased into a latching notch when the steering wheel is moved to neutral position and thereby moves the lock pins automatically into locking position relative to holes in plates associated with linkage between the column of the steering wheel and said hydraulic pumps.

Disc Mower Pivot Sealing Apparatus

US Patent:
5782071, Jul 21, 1998
Filed:
Jul 22, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/681242
Inventors:
Barry E. Lehman - York PA
Kenneth W. McLean - New Holland PA
Assignee:
New Holland North America, Inc. - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 3466
US Classification:
56 6
Abstract:
A sealing apparatus is provided for a pivot assembly on a disc mower incorporating a disc cutterbar to sever standing crop material by impact action. A first circular labyrinth seal has a T-shaped cross-section and fills a correspondingly-shaped groove between the pivot support arm and the gearbox housing. The combination of the T-shaped groove and corresponding labyrinth seal creates a labyrinth path for the entrance of dirt into the pivot assembly. A second circular face seal is constructed with a deformed inner diameter to create a lip that engages the face of the gearbox hubs. The deformed inner diameter lip of the face seal creates an inner cavity underneath the seal that can be filled with grease to provide a further deterrent to the entry of dirt into the pivot mechanism.
