Filed:
May 10, 1991
Appl. No.:

Inventors:
Joseph S. Glick - Bird-In-Hand PA
Glenn A. Musser - New Holland PA
David R. Miller - Strasburg PA
Assignee:
Millcreek Manufacturing - Bird-In-Hand PA
International Classification:
E01C 1920
US Classification:
239666
Abstract:
A fine material distributing machine having a container adapted to be movable over the ground, a conveyor at least partially housed within the container to be cooperable therewith to move fine material reposed within the container toward a discharge opening in the container, and a brush-type distributing mechanism positioned at the discharge opening to engage material conveyed thereto by the conveyor to effect a discharge thereof from the container to the surface of the ground, is disclosed wherein the brush-type distributing mechanism has resilient bristles which engage a structural member to cause a deflection thereof counter to the direction of rotation of the distributing mechanism as the bristles are engaging material conveyed thereto for enhancing the discharge of material from the container. The machine is also provided with a metering device to control the flow of fine material to the distributing mechanism and a dispersing panel for directing the discharged material into a spread pattern wider than the overall width of the machine. The dispersing panel is pivotally mounted to be selectively engageable with the cylindrical brush to effect a deflection of the bristles and to project upwardly extending dispersal fins into engagement with the rotating brush.

Coil Tube Heater For A Used-Oil Fired Furnace

US Patent:
6085701, Jul 11, 2000
Filed:
Apr 12, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/289732
Inventors:
Norman M. Stauffer - New Holland PA
Emanuel S. Beiler - Gordonville PA
Frederick W. Phillips - Leola PA
Benuel F. Smoker - Narvon PA
Glenn A. Musser - New Holland PA
Assignee:
Clean Burn, Inc. - Leola PA
International Classification:
F24H 100
US Classification:
1223671
Abstract:
A coil tube heater for a multi-oil burner in a used-oil fired furnace utilizing an air to liquid heat exchanger and being fabricated from tubing formed into a tightly coiled cylinder having a plurality of coil loops that are not fixed to any of the adjacent loops to allow for unfettered heat expansion. The coil tube heater is provided with a ceramic sleeve interposed between the burner assembly and the coiled heat exchanger to focus the flame into a tight configuration toward the target positioned at the rear of the combustion chamber. The coil tube heater is provided with a circulation system that has a first circulation loop having a first circulator that moves a liquid transfer medium through the coiled heat exchanger to a buffer tank or directly to the load. A second load loop has a second circulator that draws heated transfer medium from the outlet line leading from the coiled heat exchanger to a load cell before injecting the cooled transfer medium into the inlet line leading back into the coiled heat exchanger.

Header Height/Lateral Float Control For Combine Header

US Patent:
4641490, Feb 10, 1987
Filed:
Apr 12, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/722585
Inventors:
Edward J. Wynn - Leola PA
Glenn A. Musser - New Holland PA
Lawrence M. Halls - New Holland PA
Assignee:
New Holland Inc. - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A10D 7528
US Classification:
56 102
Abstract:
A header height/lateral float control mechanism for a crop harvesting header mounted on a combine base unit for movement in a generally vertical direction and for rotational movement in a generally vertical plane to permit the header to follow changes in the ground contour is disclosed wherein a height sensor bar is rotatably supported along substantially the entire transverse width of the header and first and second tilt sensors are mounted adjacent the transversely spaced header sidewalls. The control mechanism is operatively associated with the tilt sensors and the height sensor such that the header lift mechanism is operated whenever the height sensor is actuated and the mechanism for rotatably tilting the header can be actuated only when the tilt sensors indicate different relative ground changes. The control mechanism further includes electrically actuated switches that are interconnected to prevent actuation of the header tilt mechanism whenever both tilt sensors register identical ground contour changes.

Drive Reversing Mechanism

US Patent:
4467590, Aug 28, 1984
Filed:
Dec 12, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/560650
Inventors:
Glenn A. Musser - New Holland PA
James W. McDuffie - New Holland PA
Richard A. Pucher - Leola PA
Lloyd W. Redding - Lancaster PA
T. William Waldrop - New Holland PA
Assignee:
Sperry Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 6908
US Classification:
56 112
Abstract:
A hydraulically driven drive reversing mechanism, attachable to a combine to reverse the drive to the header and feeder house components, is disclosed wherein the reversing mechanism is contained within a gearbox detachably connected with the header drive shaft. The reversing mechanism is substantially self-contained within the gearbox and connectable to a source of hydraulic power to provide an optional drive reversing capability for substantially any combine. The reversing mechanism includes a first gear splined onto the header drive shaft for rotation therewith, a second free wheeling gear mounted within the gearbox in an intermeshing relationship with the first gear for rotation therewith and a clutch selectively engageable with the second gear to transfer rotational power from a hydraulic motor to affect a rotation of the header drive shaft in a reverse direction.

Drive Reverser Actuating Mechanism

US Patent:
4512139, Apr 23, 1985
Filed:
Dec 12, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/560671
Inventors:
Glenn A. Musser - New Holland PA
James F. Rayfield - New Holland PA
Richard A. Pucher - Leola PA
Assignee:
Sperry Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 6900
US Classification:
56 112
Abstract:
An actuating mechanism for a header drive reversing assembly on a combine is disclosed wherein the linkage for actuating the drive reverser is interconnected with the linkage for disengaging the primary drive so that the drive reverser cannot be actuated while the primary drive is operatively driving the header. The linkages are connected to a single control lever to prevent the actuation of the drive reverser while the primary drive is engaged. The control lever is pivotally mounted for movement along two generally perpendicular directions and is engageable with a forked bracket when positioned for actuating the drive reverser to control the direction of flow of hydraulic fluid to the drive reverser.

Combined Stone Trap Closing Mechanism

US Patent:
4467819, Aug 28, 1984
Filed:
Sep 22, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/534998
Inventors:
Glenn A. Musser - New Holland PA
Stuart O. Swiler - New Holland PA
Larimer J. Knepper - New Holland PA
Assignee:
Sperry Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01F 1216
US Classification:
130 27JT
Abstract:
A closing mechanism for the trap door of a stone trap mounted in the floor of the feeder house on a combine harvester is disclosed wherein the trap door can be moved from a opened position to a closed position by the raising of the header. If the stone trap door has been opened for the ejection of non-crop material within the flow of crop material within the feeder house, a link interconnecting the trap door and the frame of the combine effects a pivotal movement of the trap door to its closed position upon actuation of the header lift cylinders to raise the feeder house and attached header above the ground. The link includes a spring to permit extension of the link should the feeder house be raised above a position necessary to affect the closing of the trap door.
