http://www.ece.utexas.edu/aboutece/news_detail.cfm?id=417 The University of Texas at Austin Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (UT ECE), a top-ranked department, provides a unique opportunity and a supportive environment for academic/industry partnership through our Senior Design Projects. This capstone coursework provides academic excellence as well as key corporate benefits as teams focus on solving open-ended problems submitted by industrial collaborators. Companies partner with faculty and student teams, providing funding, equipment, industry expertise, and mentoring as the team works toward a successful outcome to the problem. Students are responsible for delivering a working prototype with documentation, a system design report, and two interim and one final oral presentations. Industry, student and faculty efforts culminate at the end of the course at the Senior Design Open House.
Tracor/ Frank W. McBee, Jr. Scholarship
Nomination by OSFS and selection by Engineering Scholarship Office
Mr. McBee was the founder and long-time Chairman of Tracor, Inc., which was headquartered in Austin, Texas. Mr. McBee received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UT Austin in 1947 and a Masters in ME in 1950. He was on the faculty for several years and has been recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the Cockrell School of Engineering. The scholarship endowment is from gifts by a number of people who knew and respected Mr. McBee and from matching funds from Tracor and The University of Texas at Austin. Tracor was later acquired by BAE Systems. BAE Systems North America was formed in November, 1999 through the merger of British Aerospace North America and Marconi North America, as part of the global merger of British Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems. BAE Systems North America's legacy at the time included such hallmarks of the US aerospace and defense industry as Lear Astronics, Hazeltine, Tracor, Reflectone, General Dynamics Electronics Division, and GEC-Marconi - just to name a few. Although the names of these companies have all been retired, the shared traditions of excellence that they brought to the company serve as the foundation for today's BAE Systems North America. BAE Systems North America's heritage extends into the services and technical assistance arena as well. Through its Tracor heritage, BAE Systems has a long history of providing systems engineering and integration services to the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, and other government and military customers in the areas of communications systems; undersea, anti-air, and strike warfare combat systems; air traffic control and identification systems; strategic weapons systems; ship system design and engineering; transportation systems; and services related to range operations and maintenance. For more than 30 years the company has supported the AEGIS weapon and combat system on all new Navy cruisers and destroyers and has delivered more than 100 radio communication systems for multiple ship classes.

Lockheed Martin Diversity Scholarship
Lockheed Martin
Lockheed Martin Corporation was formed in March 1995 with the merger of two of the world's premier technology companies, Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation. In 1996, Lockheed Martin completed its strategic combination with the defense electronics and systems integration businesses of Loral. Lockheed Martin traces its roots back to the early days of flight. In 1909 aviation pioneer Glenn L. Martin organized a company around a modest airplane construction business and built it into a major airframe supplier to U.S. military and commercial customers. Martin Marietta was established in 1961 when the Glenn L. Martin Company merged with American-Marietta Corp., a leading supplier of building and road construction materials. In 1913, Allan and Malcolm Loughead (name later changed to Lockheed) flew the first Lockheed plane over San Francisco Bay. The modern Lockheed Corporation was formed in 1932 after the fledgling airplane company was reorganized. www.lockheedmartin.com The former Loral Corporation was founded in 1948 in New York City by William Lorenz and Leon Alpert as a small defense electronics firm that over the years grew into a multi-billion dollar firm. In sum, the new Lockheed Martin Corporation comprises all or portions of 17 heritage companies.
