In my experience, there are two requisites when it comes to treating cancer and caring for people whom it affects. One is medical excellence, and the other is genuine compassion. I really enjoy the technical, scientific side of radiation oncology. But, even though I enjoy the "medical-science" aspects, my greatest satisfaction comes from direct contact and interaction with patients. For me, it's an ultimate privilege to be able to helps these people deal with issues that are, in many instances, overwhelming to them.
