Positioning System For An Observation Device Using A Tensioned Filament And Locator Ball

US Patent:
6045272, Apr 4, 2000
Filed:
Jun 17, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/877047
Inventors:
Christopher J. Ryan - Lancaster PA
Richard R. Wright - Reinholds PA
Assignee:
Philips Electronics N.A. Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
G03B 1700
US Classification:
396428
Abstract:
A cable drive apparatus is presented which has minimal cable slippage and backlash. Such a cable drive is particularly well suited for systems requiring accurate positioning and repositioning capabilities, such as motorized camera orientation systems. To achieve minimal slippage on a cable driven pulley, one or more positioning balls are located at fixed locations on the cable, and corresponding positioning holes are located on either pulley. Tensioning means are also provided to remove slack, to minimize the backlash which may result from the stretching of the cable over time. A two pulley system is presented wherein the cable is fixedly attached to one pulley, travels over the other pulley which has the slippage constraining positioning holes, and then to tensioning means which also fixedly attached to the first pulley.

Adjustable Camera With Belt Tensioning Apparatus

US Patent:
7111998, Sep 26, 2006
Filed:
May 19, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/849399
Inventors:
Richard R Wright - Reinholds PA, US
Assignee:
Robert Bosch GmbH - Stuttgart
International Classification:
G03B 17/00, F16H 7/14
US Classification:
396427, 474112, 474114
Abstract:
A camera assembly including first and second rotating members and a motor assembly defining a first axis and operably coupled to first rotating member to drivingly rotate first rotating member. A flexible member operably couples first and second rotating members such that rotation of first rotating member causes rotation of second rotating member. A camera is operably coupled to second rotating member such that rotation of second rotating member repositions camera. The motor assembly includes a flange having an outer circumference defining a plurality of teeth and bearing against a support surface. The outer circumference defines a radially variable distance from first axis such that rotation of outer circumference against support surface displaces first axis relative to second rotational member and thereby adjusts a tensional force in flexible member. At least one pawl mechanism is fixed relative to support surface and is engageable with outer circumference.

Compound Dome Window For A Surveillance Camera

US Patent:
7306383, Dec 11, 2007
Filed:
Oct 18, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/967856
Inventors:
Theodore L Jones - Akron PA, US
Richard R Wright - Reinholds PA, US
Assignee:
Robert Bosch GmbH - Stuttgart
International Classification:
G03B 17/08, H04N 5/225
US Classification:
396427, 348373
Abstract:
A surveillance camera assembly includes a dome window having a substantially cylindrical section with an inner surface and a first annular end. A substantially hemispherical section has a concave surface and a second annular end. The second annular end is joined to the first annular end of the substantially cylindrical section. The concave surface and the inner surface of the substantially cylindrical section conjointly define a cavity. Both the substantially cylindrical section and the substantially hemispherical section are substantially transparent when viewing outwardly from a position within the cavity. A surveillance camera is received in the cavity of the dome window and swivels relative to the dome window.

Camera Having A Slip Ring And Pan-Tilt Mechanism

US Patent:
8325229, Dec 4, 2012
Filed:
Nov 26, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/323749
Inventors:
Theodore L. Jones - Akron PA, US
Richard Wright - Reinholds PA, US
Assignee:
Robert Bosch GmbH - Stuttgart
International Classification:
H04N 7/18
US Classification:
348143, 348 86, 348 E503, 34833306, 348151
Abstract:
A camera system having a camera lens module, a slip ring connector, and a pan/tilt mechanism. In one construction, the camera system includes a circuit board, a slip ring having a stator connected to the circuit board and a rotor rotatable with respect to the stator, a camera lens module, and a flexible flat cable. The camera system can also include an anti-rotation arm connected to the rotor and in contact with a first end of the flexible flat cable. The anti-rotation arm can prevent a twist of the flexible flat cable during panning of the camera lens module.

Drive Mechanism For Surveillance Camera Pan And Tilt

US Patent:
2001004, Nov 29, 2001
Filed:
Nov 10, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/966599
Inventors:
PIET C.J. VAN RENS - ASTEN, NL
RAOF FATTAH-SUMO - EINDHOVEN, NL
RICHARD R. WRIGHT - REINHOLDS PA, US
International Classification:
H04N005/232
US Classification:
348/373000, 348/211000
Abstract:
This invention discloses a camera pan and tilt mechanism wherein both the pan and the tilt motors are affixed to the stationary structure. Conventional systems are designed with the tilt motor affixed to a structure which is moved by the pan motor. Displacing the tilt motor from the structure which is moved by the pan motor allows the pan motor and the enclosing envelope to be smaller, and the design of the tilt motor and movable structure to be less complex. The overall result is a less massive, less costly, more reliable design, with faster dynamic performance.
