Controller Module For Continuous Flow Twin Air Dryers And Process Of Controlling Same

US Patent:
6125553, Oct 3, 2000
Filed:
May 13, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/311050
Inventors:
Leonard Quinn - Elyria OH
Richard J. Conklin - Bay Village OH
Assignee:
AlliedSignal Truth Brake Systems Company - Elyria OH
International Classification:
F26B 300
US Classification:
34332
Abstract:
A control module for a twin air dryer system monitors which dryer was used for drying in the previous cycle. The most recently used dryer is then the first to be regenerated. This ensures that the most recently regenerated dryer is used to dry incoming air. This occurs regardless of the drying mode, i. e. , whether it is high air use or normal brake system use. The system minimizes the risk of dryer saturation and loss of function. Moreover, maintenance requirements are simplified, since the air dryer cartridges are more evenly used.

Filed:
Sep 17, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/399285
Inventors:
James P. Koenig - Olmsted Twp. OH 44138
Leonard Quinn - Elyria OH 44035
Richard J. Conklin - Bay Village OH 44140
Fred Hoffman - Columbia Station OH 44028
International Classification:
B01D 4642
US Classification:
55312, 55309, 96188
Abstract:
A trailer air dryer is provided to minimize contamination, leakage or freeze-up of the valves used in a pneumatic braking and suspension system caused by moisture or foreign particles in the system. A bypass assembly is provided to ensure normal brake operation should the filters or drying material/desiccant become plugged. In one embodiment, an audible signal or warning is provided to the operator indicating need for servicing the trailer air dryer.

Lithium Chloride Desiccant For Trailer Air Dryer And Pressure Swing Dehydration

US Patent:
6358300, Mar 19, 2002
Filed:
Mar 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/536550
Inventors:
William P. Fornof - Girard PA
Richard J. Conklin - Bay Village OH
Assignee:
Honeywell Commercial Vehicle Systems Co. - Elyria OH
International Classification:
B01D 5328
US Classification:
95 91, 95117, 95122, 96118, 96144, 96154
Abstract:
A drying material disposed in the passage of a compressed air system for removing moisture from air or gas includes a plurality of semi-rigid porous substrates impregnated with lithium chloride. The drying material is formed by preparing a saturated solution of lithium chloride and a nonflammable solvent. Porous substrata are contacted with the saturated solution to wet the substrata surface. The wet substrata are heated at a sufficient temperature for a sufficient duration to drive off excess liquid from the substrate. A desiccant comprising lithium chloride impregnated substrata is produced.

Automatic Work Brake

US Patent:
2012029, Nov 22, 2012
Filed:
Aug 6, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/567561
Inventors:
Matthew E. Rogers - Elyria OH, US
Mark A. Bennett - Lagrange OH, US
Ron R. Stahl - Medina OH, US
Michael D. Tober - Bay Village OH, US
Kenneth A. Grolle - Elyria OH, US
Richard J. Conklin - Bay Village OH, US
Timothy J. Frashure - Columbia Station OH, US
David W. Howell - Oak Ridge NC, US
Assignee:
BENDIX COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SYSTEMS LLC - Elyria OH
International Classification:
B60T 7/12
US Classification:
701 70
Abstract:
A vehicle, air brake system is presented with an improved service work brake arrangement. The arrangement may provide a service work brake function or both a service work brake function and a parking brake function for the vehicle. The arrangement may provide an improved service work brake arrangement disposed within a housing for reducing the number of components and plumbing required to achieve this functionality versus prior known systems. The arrangement may utilizes a pneumatic latching valve to deliver pressurized air for applying a vehicle's service brakes. The pneumatic latching valve opens upon receiving a pneumatic control signal from an electronically controlled valve and closes upon receiving a pneumatic control signal from another source. In addition, a controller and control logic may be provided for controlling the arrangement.

System And Method For Reducing Brake Fade

US Patent:
2012008, Apr 12, 2012
Filed:
Oct 12, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/902727
Inventors:
Timothy J. Frashure - Columbia Station OH, US
Richard J. Conklin - Bay Village OH, US
Assignee:
BENDIX COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SYSTEMS LLC - Elyria OH
International Classification:
B60T 8/60, B60T 7/12, B60T 8/24
US Classification:
701 94
Abstract:
A vehicle braking control system includes a vehicle brake associated with a wheel on the vehicle. A pedal activated by an operator of the vehicle controls application of the brake. An electronic control unit determines a grade mode of the vehicle and controls application of the brake independent of the operator activating the pedal while in an automatic braking mode. The electronic control unit sends a control signal to apply the brake in a manner to reduce brake fade while controlling a speed of the vehicle when the electronic control unit is in the automatic braking mode and the vehicle is in a downhill grade mode.

Single Plate Compaction And Seal Design For A Compressed Air Dryer

US Patent:
6076272, Jun 20, 2000
Filed:
Oct 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/182690
Inventors:
Richard J. Conklin - Bay Village OH
Scott McGill Alexander - Barry, South Glamorgan, CF62 8HZ, GB
International Classification:
F26B 2102
US Classification:
34 80
Abstract:
A compressed air dryer assembly for an air braking system provides for uniform compression of a desiccant bed. Guidance of a housing urged into a dryer shell by a spring force is provided at radially inner and outer regions. This guidance allows for a wide range of movement so that the desiccant bed is maintained under uniform compression. In addition, a sliding seal effectively provides a wide range of movement and yet limits communication between the inlet and outlet openings.
