High Accuracy Flow Restrictor Using Crystal

US Patent:
6446513, Sep 10, 2002
Filed:
Jun 13, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/593833
Inventors:
Richard C. Henderson - San Jose CA 95135
International Classification:
G01F 137
US Classification:
7386152, 7386161
Abstract:
A flow meter for use in a flow stream with a tubular housing, including a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, in the flow stream, with the inlet pressure exceeding the outlet pressure. The interior has an orifice defined in a crystalline silicon membrane, along crystal planes of the silicon so that the geometry of the orifices is precisely known and has a sharp knife edge rim profile. Where the fluid is a gas, pressure and temperature transducers measure conditions inside of the housing for application of gas law principles. By using instantaneous pressure and temperature in the chamber, mass flow through the outlet orifices of the chamber is computed and delivered as an output signal.

Abstract:
A method for removing component mismatch errors for a system parameter being set by a ratio of two or more physical, electrical components (“components”) of the same kind on an integrated circuit including providing an array of component units having the same component value, determining the actual component values of each component unit in the array, selecting component units based on the actual component values to form pairs of component units where the pairs have approximately the same total component values, ordering the component unit pairs, assigning alternate component unit pairs to be associated with each of the two or more components, rotating at a first frequency the assignment of the component unit pairs. At each rotation, the component unit pairs to be associated with each component are shifted so that each component unit pair is associated with a different one of the two or more components in turn.

Method For Performing A Search Of A Plurality Of Documents For Similarity To A Plurality Of Query Words

US Patent:
5544049, Aug 6, 1996
Filed:
May 22, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/447317
Inventors:
Richard D. Henderson - San Jose CA
Michael J. Barbarino - Moss Beach CA
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
36441919
Abstract:
A method for performing a search of a plurality of documents for similarity to a query word includes retrieving a first document, and determining a number of occurrences of the at least one query word in the first document. Then, a next document is retrieved and a number of occurrences of the at least one query word in the next document is determined. The steps are repeated until each of the plurality of documents have been retrieved, and the number of occurrences of the at least one query word has been determined in each of the plurality of documents. The query word can include a plurality of query words, all of which are searched in each document, in turn, rather than being searched word by word in the whole collection of documents. The documents are then ranked according to the number of occurrences of the query words determined in each document, and a list of documents is produced according to the document ranking.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for calculating the surface distance between two geographical locations are described. According to one aspect of the present invention, values are stored in a square look-up table for determining the square of a value. Also, values are stored in a linear to surface distance look-up table for determining the surface distance of a linear value. Cartesian co-ordinates of the two geographic locations and the square look-up table are then used to calculate the square of the linear distance between the two geographical locations and the linear to surface distance look-up table is used to convert the calculated square of the linear distance to a surface distance.
