Compositions comprising a guanylyl cyclase C agonist formulated for sustained specific release of an amount effective to suppress appetite when administered orally to an individual are disclosed. Compositions comprising a guanylyl cyclase C agonist formulated for intravenous delivery in an amount effective to suppress appetite when administered intravenously to an individual are also disclosed.
