Philosophy:
I am a medical oncologist who specializes in the care of persons with cancers arising in the chest: including lung cancer, thymoma, mediastinal tumors, and cancer of unknown primary site. My research interests include tests for new anticancer treatments, the discovery of medicines that specifically attack lung cancer, multimodality therapy (using surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy together to destroy cancers), and better ways to control physicial symptoms caused by cancer and cancer treatment. I am particularly interested in finding ways to select the best treatments for persons with cancer based on clinical factors and the molecular characteristics of their tumor specimens.

Abstract:
Methods for treating a human patient suffering from malignant pleural effusion by administering an effective amount of a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor to the human patient. The VEGF inhibitor is a VEGF trap protein comprising a dimeric protein having two fusion polypeptides having the sequence of SEQ ID NO:2.
