Kathleen Barrett, a native New Yorker, graduated from NYU Cum Laude with a BA in Mathematical Economics. Kathleen worked at a Real Estate Investment Trust throughout college and was given an offer to join Goldman Sachs upon graduating. She capitalized on the opportunity and ultimately spent five years working at the firm across various divisions and products. Kathleen was fortunate to experience the ups and downs of the industry from a front row seat while getting exposure to the businesses of capital raising, lending, risk management, trading, and commercial real estate. All the while, Kathleen continued to explore real estate investment opportunities on her own; over the last several years, she successfully purchased, renovated, and sold multiple properties. It was not long until Kathleen realized that working with different properties and the NYC Real Estate industry, in general, were her true passions. As a result, Kathleen left the finance industry to pursue a career in Real Estate. Kathleen has been exposed to Real Estate since she was a young girl; a photograph of her helping her father paint on a scaffold at the ripe age of six hangs above her desk. Kathleen's mother has been in the industry for over twenty-two years; after emigrating from Poland without knowing a word of English, she built a successful business from scratch. Kathleen's mother was the obvious choice to show her the ropes when she decided to join the industry. After working with her mother in the suburbs to establish the Barrett Properties New York Team, Kathleen knew it was time to extend her focus to NYC, where her heart is. Kathleen chose KWNYC because of the entrepreneurial spirit of the company and the values that it nurtures - team work, reaching out to the community, and of course excellence in client service and growth. Kathleen also knew she wanted to be surrounded by the most talented individuals in the industry as she has found inspiring mentors to be invaluable throughout her career. Kathleen was born in Greenpoint, attended NYU, and has lived and worked in various neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn for the last ten years. She has lived and breathed the city and followed the market closely during that time, watching neighborhoods form, change, and gentrify. She has explored the city through its cultural offerings and social events, the incredible variety of restaurants at her fingertips, and most importantly the people that define New York. Her understanding of the unique personalities of each block of NYC combined with her experience investing in properties on her own, knowledge of the market from all angles, and her financial background makes her a valuable resource for all of her clients. In her spare time Kathleen likes to enjoy the culinary offerings of Manhattan and Brooklyn, practice her own skills in the kitchen, and travel internationally as often as possible. While she loves exploring new lands and meeting new people, she always find herself happy to be back home in Brooklyn, where she lives with her boyfriend and French bulldog. Kathleen is also currently working on a community-focused real estate start-up that she hopes to launch in the near future.
