Abstract:
A data processing system includes a file system manager that organizes content into albums using a tagging technique. The file system manager comprises a filename utility that sets a unique filename for each file of uploaded files across a plurality of albums and an album manager utility that manages an album according to a list of tags. The tags include unique content file references and content metadata, whereby a file instance in a cross-section of the tags is included in multiple albums.

Example embodiments relate to a server for providing remote storage space to users. The server may include a mechanism that allocates a portion of storage space in the storage area in response to a request from a first remote user. The server may also include a mechanism that maintains storage records, the storage records identifying a user currently granted exclusive access to the portion of storage space. Furthermore, the server may include a mechanism that processes access requests to determine whether a remote user requesting access to the portion of storage space is the user currently granted exclusive access. Related clients, methods, and machine-readable storage media are also disclosed.

A data processing system facilitates organization of content such as digital photographs, video files, audio tracks, and the like. The data processing system comprises a content manager that manages a content database and includes a content database initialization or creation utility and a content database search utility. The a content database initialization utility creates a content database by assigning one or more tags that represents context of the content to content and combines the tag or tags with associated content in a data structure, and saves the data structure in a database. The content database search utility specifies a set of tag values representing context of content and initiates a database query for determining a set of content items that match the specified set of tag values. The content database search utility searches for the set of content items that match the tag values.

An apparatus and method for operating a graphic user interface in a windowing operating system. A value representing a mapping of logical inches to real measurement units is determined from information stored in the operating system. A physical size in real measurement units of a display device is determined. A user viewing the display device is asked to identify a displayed graphic image having a preselected dimension in real measurement units. A plurality of graphic objects are displayed, where each of the graphic objects have a different size. The user viewing the plurality of graphic object is asked to select one of the graphic objects. The size of the selected graphic object is saved as a first user-defined size.

A storage system includes at least one storage device on which are provided data storage volumes and an extended storage volume.
