All Sky Pointing Attitude Control System

US Patent:
4012018, Mar 15, 1977
Filed:
Oct 4, 1973
Appl. No.:
5/403695
Inventors:
Kenneth R. Lorell - Palo Alto CA
James P. Murphy - San Jose CA
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration - Washington DC
International Classification:
B64G 110
US Classification:
244165
Abstract:
In a strapped-down gyroscope space vehicle attitude control system, a method and apparatus are provided for gyro drift and input axis misalignment error compensation employing a sun and a star tracker and preselected vehicle calibration maneuvers. During the preselected maneuvers using the sun and a star as external references, the outputs of two-axis strapped-down gyroscopes nominally aligned with the optical axis of the sun and star trackers are measured. The measured outputs provide gyro drift calibration, roll, pitch and yaw axis scale factors and values corresponding to the degree of nonorthogonality between the roll axis and the pitch and yaw gyro input axes and the nonorthogonality of the roll and pitch axes relative to the yaw axis. With the calibration data so obtained stored in a special purpose digital computer, the vehicle is then rolled and yawed through precomputed angles as modified by the calibration data to acquire a target without further recourse to external references.

Disposable Email Address Generation And Mapping To A Regular Email Account

US Patent:
2014004, Feb 13, 2014
Filed:
Aug 13, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/572857
Inventors:
Cameron J. Esfahani - San Jose CA, US
Carl J. Norum - San Jose CA, US
Daniel R. Fletcher - Los Gatos CA, US
James C. Murphy - San Jose CA, US
Santo S. Sapienza - Sunnyvale CA, US
Shachar Ron - Mountain View CA, US
Stanley A. Rabu - Sunnyvale CA, US
Assignee:
APPLE INC. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709206
Abstract:
An integrated system allows easily creating and using disposable email addresses. The disposable email address is created by an email server, which manages correspondence using the disposable email address to avoid exposing the associated non-disposable email address. Context information may be associated with a disposable email address, where the context information is not visible in email sent using the disposable email address. Expiration information may also be associated with the disposable email address, where the expiration information defines conditions that cause the disposable email address to expire. Should the disposable address be misused, the associated context may allow a user to recognize what correspondent exposed the disposable address to misuse.

Ap-Local Dynamic Switching

US Patent:
2010032, Dec 30, 2010
Filed:
Jun 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/304100
Inventors:
James Murphy - San Jose CA, US
Gary Eugene Morain - San Jose CA, US
Stan Chestnut - Berkeley CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 88/08
US Classification:
370328
Abstract:
A technique for implementing AP-local dynamic switching involves Layer 2 switching. This may be accomplished by providing data associated with wireless stations to an AP sufficient to enable the AP to determine whether traffic from a particular wireless station should be locally switched. Alternatively, the wireless station may be able to determine whether to locally switch traffic based upon the traffic itself. For example, it may be desirable to AP-locally switch voice traffic to avoid latency, which is particularly detrimental to voice transmissions such as voice-over-IP. Traffic that is not to be switched locally is Layer 2 tunneled upstream.

High Acceleration Cable Deployment System

US Patent:
4271761, Jun 9, 1981
Filed:
Apr 23, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/032305
Inventors:
Thomas N. Canning - Sunnyvale CA
Christopher E. Barns - Mountain View CA
James P. Murphy - San Jose CA
Bobby Gin - San Jose CA
Robert W. King - Saratoga CA
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42B 1356
US Classification:
102504
Abstract:
A high acceleration umbilical cable deployment system for enabling electrical communication between a ballistic projectile forebody and an afterbody. A cable coiled on a spool is housed within a ballistic casing having a drag funnel at the rear end. The cable is sandwiched between a foam plug and the drag funnel before it leaves the forebody and is secured in a strain relief at the apex of a funnel in the afterbody. On deployment, when the bodies are separated, energies that would tend to rupture the cable are expended by the funnels, plug and strain relief.
