Computer-Implemented Systems And Methods For Screening And Predicting The Performance Of Enhanced Oil Recovery And Improved Oil Recovery Methods

US Patent:
2010030, Dec 2, 2010
Filed:
May 27, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/472920
Inventors:
Ganesh Thakur - Houston TX, US
Arnaldo L. Espinel - Richmond TX, US
Suryo Yudono - Riau, ID
Rodolfo Martin Terrado - Midland TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 43/16, E21B 47/00, E21B 43/20, G06G 7/48
US Classification:
16625001, 703 10
Abstract:
Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for screening among various EOR process for application to a reservoir. Also provided are computer-implemented systems and methods for screening the feasibility of a waterflood process for application in a reservoir and for recommending a waterflood injection scheme to be applied. In addition, computer-implemented systems and methods for predicting the performance of a waterflood process in a reservoir are provided. Computer-implemented systems and methods for predicting the performance of a polymer flood technique in a reservoir also are provided. The performance of the polymer flood process may be compared to the performance of a waterflood process.

Computer-Implemented Systems And Methods For Forecasting Performance Of Water Flooding Of An Oil Reservoir System Using A Hybrid Analytical-Empirical Methodology

Computer-Implemented Systems And Methods For Forecasting Performance Of Water Flooding Of An Oil Reservoir System Using A Hybrid Analytical-Empirical Methodology

US Patent:
2012010, Apr 26, 2012
Filed:
Oct 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/911431
Inventors:
Khyati Rai - Sugar Land TX, US
Arnaldo L. Espinel - Richmond TX, US
Ganesh C. Thakur - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - San Ramon CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/18, G06G 7/48, G06F 19/00
US Classification:
702 85, 703 10
Abstract:
Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for generating corrected performance data of water flooding of an oil reservoir system based on application of a statistical correction factor methodology (SCF). For example, data related to properties of the oil reservoir system and data related to a water flooding scenario are received. Water flooding performance data is generated based on application of an analytical water flooding performance computation methodology. Based on application of the SCF methodology to the generated water flooding performance data, corrected water flooding performance data is determined, representative of oil recovery by the water flooding of the oil reservoir system. The SCF methodology can also be used to evaluate water production based on parameters such as water-oil ratio and water cut, identify possible analog reservoirs that have similar water production performance, and calculate a Gross Injection Factor to account for water loss in the reservoir.

Computer-Implemented Systems And Methods For Forecasting Performance Of Polymer Flooding Of An Oil Reservoir System

US Patent:
8510089, Aug 13, 2013
Filed:
Aug 31, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/872923
Inventors:
Khyati Rai - Sugar Land TX, US
Arnaldo L. Espinel - Richmond TX, US
Ganesh C. Thakur - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Chevron U.S.A., Inc. - San Ramon CA
International Classification:
G06G 7/48, E21B 43/16, E21B 43/22, G01V 3/00
US Classification:
703 10, 1662701, 166268, 3708546
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for forecasting performance of polymer flooding of an oil reservoir system. For example, property data of the oil reservoir system and polymer flooding scenario data are received. Numerical simulations are performed to generate values of an effective mobility ratio and response time for the polymer and water flooding. A correlation for the polymer flooding effective mobility ratio is determined and used in a predictive model to generate polymer and water flooding performance data, representative of oil recovery by the polymer and water flooding of the oil reservoir system.
