Server-Assisted Position Determination In A Radio Network

US Patent:
2002017, Nov 21, 2002
Filed:
Mar 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/094316
Inventors:
Christopher Verbil - Los Altos CA, US
International Classification:
G01C021/00
US Classification:
701/213000, 342/357060
Abstract:
According to the principles of the invention, a client unit () comprises a client GPS receiver () is integrated with a two-way-radio transceiver () and a manager () for the purpose of performing server-assisted global position fixes, especially in cases where the location or situation makes unassisted fixes impossible or impractical. A server unit () is also provided, associated with a second two-way-radio transceiver () and a server manager (). The first and second managers (and ) function as communication managers, each comprising modules for detecting RF channel traffic, enabling transmitter portions of the transceivers (and ). The system may also provide identification codes that accompany data sent from the client unit to the base station to identify the client unit.

Dynamic Reporting Scheme For Location Based Services

US Patent:
8614629, Dec 24, 2013
Filed:
May 30, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/484186
Inventors:
Christopher John Verbil - Los Altos CA, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
G08B 21/00
US Classification:
34053913, 340988, 701408, 701500, 4554561
Abstract:
A dynamic position reporting and/or logging scheme is described herein. Position reporting and/or logging for a mobile device may be dynamically determined based on one or more reporting and/or logging constraints. The constraints may be based on time, distance, events, operating parameters, operating conditions, or some combination thereof. The constraints that dynamically trigger position reporting may be the same as, overlap, or be distinct from the constraints used to trigger position logging. The reporting and logging constraints can be selected to provide a more accurate indication of a track or route traveled by the mobile device.
