Spectral Searching Method For Substance Identification

Spectral Searching Method For Substance Identification

US Patent:
8271209, Sep 18, 2012
Filed:
Dec 18, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/641705
Inventors:
Sridhar Venkataraman Dasaratha - Bangalore, IN
Thirukazhukundram Subrahmaniam Vignesh - Bangalore, IN
William Scott Sutherland - Murrieta CA, US
Young Kyo Lee - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Niskayuna NY
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
702 27, 702 76
Abstract:
Methods, systems and computer program products for identifying components of an unknown mixture using spectral analysis techniques. The method includes comparing the spectrum of the unknown mixture with the spectra of library compounds to obtain candidate mixture combinations. A model is generated for each of the candidate mixture combinations based on a modeling metric. A residual spectrum is computed corresponding to each of the candidate mixture combinations by removing the spectrum of each of the compounds of the candidate mixture combination from the spectrum of the unknown mixture. One or more potential compounds are identified by comparing the residual spectrum with the spectrum of library compounds. The potential compounds are added to the candidate mixture combinations to generate an updated list of the candidate mixture combinations. The search algorithm repeats the steps described above on the updated candidate mixture combinations, until a first termination condition is satisfied.

Substance Detection By Nuclear Quardrupole Resonance Using At Least Two Different Excitation Frequencies

US Patent:
6900633, May 31, 2005
Filed:
Jun 28, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/183351
Inventors:
Karen L. Sauer - Alexandria VA, US
Bryan H. Suits - Houghton MI, US
Joel B. Miller - Cheverly MD, US
Allen N. Garroway - Davidsonville MD, US
Young K. Lee - San Diego CA, US
Shouqin Huo - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
G01V003/00
US Classification:
324307
Abstract:
This invention involves an apparatus to measure the nuclear quadrupole (NQR) response of a specimen using three frequencies. Three-frequency NQR involves excitation of at least two transitions that causes an observed signal at a third transition frequency. Thus, the transition excited and detected is not irradiated at all. This reduces undesirable interfering signals due to the excitation, for example as a result of acoustic ringing and/or tank circuit ring-down, since the excitation is not applied at the frequency that is detected. This invention will be particularly useful to detect substances selected from the group consisting of explosives and narcotics using nitrogen NQR.

Method And Device For Damping Lens Vibration

US Patent:
8190015, May 29, 2012
Filed:
Feb 14, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/031414
Inventors:
Jingqiang Li - San Diego CA, US
Young Lee - San Diego CA, US
Dennis C. Lee - Poway CA, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
G03B 13/34
US Classification:

Abstract:
In a method for reducing lens vibration in an image capture device, a lens movement requirement is broken up into N smaller lens move steps, and the lens is moved a first of the N smaller steps. A wait time is inserted after completing the first of the N smaller steps, and then the moving and inserting steps are repeated until the remaining N smaller move steps have been completed. The image capture device includes a voice coil motor for moving the lens under control of a controller in accordance with the lens movement requirement, which reflects a determined lens position. The voice coil motor includes springs which impart vibration to the lens during lens movement. The vibration imparted by the springs to the lens is thus actively dampened during the lens movement to the determined lens position.
