System, Method And Computer Program Product For Screening A Spectral Image

System, Method And Computer Program Product For Screening A Spectral Image

US Patent:
2004002, Feb 5, 2004
Filed:
Aug 8, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/362643
Inventors:
Eric Krotkov - Wynnewood PA, US
Yongping Wang - Philadelphia PA, US
Zhang Zhong - Herndon VA, US
Robert Danen - San Jose CA, US
International Classification:
A61B005/00
US Classification:
600/322000
Abstract:
A system, method and computer program product is provided for screening and analyzing spectral images of a microcirculatory system to measure blood characteristics, such as hemoglobin concentration. In an embodiment, multi-stage screening is performed on each input image to determine whether the image is suitable for hemoglobin measurement and prediction. During the screening process the following quantities are measured: image intensity, image background intensity variation, image focus condition, image motion blur condition, number of vessels in the image with certain range of diameters, average vessel edge contrast, number of bubble segments in the image and the similarity between two images. The multi-stage screening cycle includes intensity screening, DWT decomposition, focus measurement, motion blur measurement, vessel and bubble detection, and repetition detection. During the screening stages, the image is classified into one of three categories: excellent, mediocre and poor. Only the images with an excellent rating is used for further Hb estimation. But both excellent and mediocre images would launch an autofocusing process provided by focus measurement. In another embodiment, a Fast Fourier transform is used to develop a spectral ratio to detect excellent images. The present invention provides real time hemoglobin prediction on the subject under investigation.

Oct 4, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/542761
Inventors:
Terry Fuller - Jenkintown PA, US
Francis O'Donnell - Town and Country MO, US
Yongping Wang - Philadelphia PA, US
International Classification:
A61B 3/16, A61B 8/00
US Classification:
600405000, 600449000
Abstract:
An apparatus for determining intraocular pressure includes a transducer assembly containing an applanation tonometer for the determination of a cornea applanation pressure and an ultrasonic pachymeter to determine the thickness of the cornea at the site of applanation. The assembly has a tip end which includes an applanation surface and an ultrasonic coupler surface, and an end cap membrane holder is adapted to fit over the tip end of the transducer assembly and hold a thin film membrane stretched over the applanation and ultrasonic coupler surfaces. The transducer assembly also has a detector for detecting the presence or absence of the end cap membrane holder, the detector may generate a signal to disable movement of the transducer assembly if the end cap is not detected.
