Reciprocating Syringes

US Patent:
6245046, Jun 12, 2001
Filed:
May 3, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/303555
Inventors:
Wilmer L. Sibbitt - Albuquerque NM
Assignee:
University of New Mexico - Albuquerque NM
International Classification:
A61M 500
US Classification:
604191
Abstract:
The present invention provides a syringe device comprising: a first syringe comprising: a first syringe barrel including a first opening at a distal end thereof through which fluid may be forced or aspirated; and a first syringe plunger sliding within the first syringe barrel for forcing fluid through the first syringe barrel opening, the first syringe plunger including a stopper at a distal end thereof which sealingly and slidably engages the first syringe barrel; a reciprocating member which moves along a track parallel to the axial direction of the first syringe; and a reciprocating device connecting the first syringe plunger to the reciprocating member so that when one member of the group consisting of the first syringe plunger and the reciprocating member moves distally, the other member of the group is forced to move proximally. The present invention also provides a syringe device where one member of the group consisting of the first syringe plunger and the reciprocating member moves proximally, the other member of the group is forced to move distally.

Vascular Closure Methods And Apparatuses

US Patent:
2007020, Aug 30, 2007
Filed:
Aug 23, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/508715
Inventors:
Wilmer Sibbitt - Albuquerque NM, US
Randy Sibbitt - Helena MT, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/10
US Classification:
606139000
Abstract:
A vascular closure device comprised of a sheath-delivered cincture or noose-like device or knot comprised of suture, wire, or other suitable materials, that is placed on the external surface of a puncture wound, and closed. The vascular closure cincture is delivered by a sheath, and after closing is left resident on the external surface of a tissue puncture wound.

Colorful Shielded Reciprocating Butterfly Needle

US Patent:
2005009, Apr 28, 2005
Filed:
Oct 27, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/693082
Inventors:
Wilmer Sibbitt - Albuquerque NM, US
International Classification:
A61M005/00
US Classification:
604263000
Abstract:
A butterfly needle assembly has a needle and a shield with wings integral to either the needle or the shield. The wings have aesthetically pleasing patterns to distract the patient during treatment. The mechanical design of the needle and shield juncture improves the stability of the assembly when inserted into a patient, as well as allowing the assembly to be disengaged with a single hand to help the caregiver avoid a needle “stick” and prevent the spread of diseases.

Electrochemical Heat Engine

US Patent:
4090012, May 16, 1978
Filed:
May 5, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/794297
Inventors:
Guy R. B. Elliott - Los Alamos NM
Charles E. Holley - Alcalde NM
Barton L. Houseman - Cockeysville MD
Wilmer L. Sibbitt - Albuquerque NM
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the United States
Department of Energy - Washington DC
International Classification:
H01M 1034, H01M 1039
US Classification:
429 20
Abstract:
Electrochemical heat engines produce electrochemical work, and mechanical motion is limited to valve and switching actions as the heat-to-work cycles are performed. The electrochemical cells of said heat engines use molten or solid electrolytes at high temperatures. One or more reactions in the cycle will generate a gas at high temperature which can be condensed at a lower temperature with later return of the condensate to electrochemical cells. Sodium, potassium, and cesium are used as the working gases for high temperature cells (above 600 K) with halogen gases or volatile halides being used at lower temperature. Carbonates and halides are used as molten electrolytes and the solid electrolyte in these melts can also be used as a cell separator.

Safety Needles With Locking Sheaths

US Patent:
2005027, Dec 15, 2005
Filed:
Jun 10, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/150381
Inventors:
Wilmer Sibbitt - Albuquerque NM, US
International Classification:
A61M005/00
US Classification:
604110000, 604263000
Abstract:
A cap or sheath locks onto the needle or other sharp, thus permanently inactivating the needle or other sharp, preventing any further use of the device, and permanently isolating the contaminated sharp. Four components are a needle or sharp to accommodate a locking collar, a sheath with a external, internal, or horizontal track to accommodate a locking collar, a locking collar that moves inferiorly within or outside the sheath, or horizontally that binds to the sheath or needle, permanently locking the needle in the sheath and mechanically preventing the needle from moving from the sheath, and a locking mechanisms for these devices. Handles are advantageously provided for the sheath to permit safe recapping or resheathing so that the needle can be bound in the sheath and inactivated.
