Mr Method And Apparatus Employing Magnetization Transfer Contrast Inducing Fat-Selective Rf Pulse

US Patent:
5270652, Dec 14, 1993
Filed:
May 20, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/886265
Inventors:
William T. Dixon - Atlanta GA
Xiaole Hong - Atlanta GA
Assignee:
North American Philips Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
G01V 300
US Classification:
324309
Abstract:
A magnetic resonance and apparatus in which an examination zone is exposed, preferably repeatedly, with a sequence in which the same RF pulse is both selective to fat, for acting in a fat suppression scheme within the sequence and is configured for inducing substantial magnetization transfer contrast. Design parameters are given for a 1-2-1 binomial RF pulse and a 1-2-1-1-2-1double binomial RF pulse having a 0. degree. net flip angle at the Larmor frequency of water protons and a nominal 180. degree. net flip angle at the Larmor frequency of fat bound protons. The partial derivatives of the latter nominal flip angle with respect to chemical shift and with respect to RF amplitude are each zero. Each of these RF pulse designs is implemented by a pulse which is substantially rectangular in amplitude, but which has alternations of phase between 0. degree. and 180. degree. during its duration to form the sub-pulses.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Method

US Patent:
5522390, Jun 4, 1996
Filed:
Nov 13, 1992
Appl. No.:
8/184498
Inventors:
Hans H. Tuithof - Eindhoven, NL
Johannes J. Van Vaals - Eindhoven, NL
William T. Dixon - Atlanta GA
Assignee:
U.S. Philips Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
A61B 5055
US Classification:
1286532
Abstract:
A magnetic resonance imaging method is proposed for the following of a dynamic process in a body (5), such as perfusion in the brain by means of a contrast agent such as Gd-DTPA, or the effects of a physical stimulus. The dynamic process is followed by way of a multiple-slice MR measurement through, for example, 10 slices. In accordance with the invention, before or after the injection of the contrast agent, high-resolution reference images of the slices are formed, the same slices being measured with a lower resolution during the perfusion of the contrast agent. Substitution of the low-resolution data in data matrices containing high-resolution data produces, after Fourier transformation, images of the slices in which the measured changes in image intensities due to the contrast medium are reproduced in the high-resolution images.
