Filed:
Jun 26, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/180758
Inventors:
Thomas Nicholson - York PA, US
William Nicholson - York PA, US
W. Nicholson - York PA, US
International Classification:
A61M029/00
US Classification:
606/192000, 128/207290
Abstract:
A percutaneous dilational medical insertion device and method comprising a needle removeably disposed in a catheter and a tubular member. The catheter has an inflatable balloon member disposed between a first catheter end and a second catheter end. The second catheter end having a flexible end portion. The needle has a tip that extends beyond the second catheter end that is percutaneously inserted into an interior cavity. After insertion into the interior cavity, the needle is removed from the catheter. When the needle is removed, the flexible end portion of the catheter curls to protect the interior cavity as the catheter is advanced. The catheter is advanced until the inflatable balloon member is received in a wall of the interior cavity. The inflatable balloon member is dilated to form a passageway. The tubular member disposed about the catheter proximate the first catheter end is then advanced into the passageway.

Percutaneous Medical Insertion Device

US Patent:
2004000, Jan 1, 2004
Filed:
Dec 12, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/319311
Inventors:
Thomas Nicholson - York PA, US
William Nicholson - York PA, US
W. Nicholson - York PA, US
International Classification:
A61M005/178
US Classification:
604/164010
Abstract:
A percutaneous medical insertion device for positioning a tubular member or a catheter within an interior cavity or a vein. The catheter having a flexible end portion and an opening that removeably receives a needle. The flexible end portion is essentially straight when the needle is positioned in the flexible end portion and the flexible end portion essentially curls when the needle is removed from the flexible end portion. The catheter has an opening that allows for the creation of a ninety degree angle of the catheter and simultaneously allowing a needle to be inserted through the flexible end of the catheter. After insertion into the interior cavity or the vein, the needle is removed from the catheter. The flexible end portion of the catheter curls when the needle is removed from the catheter to protect the interior of the interior cavity or the vein as the catheter is advanced.
