Combination Thrust Bearing And Journal Bearing, And Method For Distributing Fluid To Same

Combination Thrust Bearing And Journal Bearing, And Method For Distributing Fluid To Same

US Patent:
6739756, May 25, 2004
Filed:
Dec 16, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/320592
Inventors:
William H. Miller - Raleigh NC
Assignee:
WHM Holding Corporation - Cohoes NY
International Classification:
F16C 1703
US Classification:
384117, 384309, 384122, 384308
Abstract:
A thrust bearing tilting pad has face with a border region including an engagement surface and defining a pocket with generally longitudinal sidebars and a bottom. The pad has leading and trailing portions, with the face extending generally longitudinally therebetween. The leading and trailing portions can be positioned upstream and downstream, respectively, relative to a direction of movement of a runner. The pad is pivotally supported by (e. g. , mechanical and/or hydrostatic) pivot and can cooperate with one or more other pads and fluid within a housing to hydrodynamically and mechanically support the runner in an axial position. In another embodiment, the pad tilts free of mechanical engagement with other pads. The leading portion can define an entrance to the pocket and the sidebars can converge along the direction of motion of the runner. The pocket hydrodynamically increases pressure on the runner during rotation, and generates pressure effecting on the face counteraction force about the pivot and upstream relative to the rotation direction in order to counteract spragging force.

Retainer Clip For Ribbon Cable Connectors

Retainer Clip For Ribbon Cable Connectors

US Patent:
2005005, Mar 10, 2005
Filed:
Oct 22, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/971518
Inventors:
William Miller - Raleigh NC, US
International Classification:
H01R013/64
US Classification:
439372000
Abstract:
A retainer clip for ribbon cable connectors comprises spaced, parallel feet which are received in transversely extending apertures extending through the female component of a ribbon cable connector. Legs extend upwardly and inwardly from the feet, and male component engaging arms extend from the upper ends of the legs for resiliently securing the male component in engagement with the female component of the connector. Camming members extend from the ends of the male component engaging arms and a handle extends from the ends of the camming members for connecting the two sides of the retainer clip.

Led Sign Cover And Method Of Manufacture

Led Sign Cover And Method Of Manufacture

US Patent:
7287878, Oct 30, 2007
Filed:
Jun 16, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/869305
Inventors:
William H. Miller - Raleigh NC, US
Assignee:
Digital Recorders, Inc. - Dallas TX
International Classification:
F21V 11/02
US Classification:
362282, 362283, 362290, 362342, 362812
Abstract:
A cover for a LED sign is manufactured from a stainless steel sheet that is dimensionally larger than the array of light emitting diodes comprising the LED sign. The stainless steel sheet is laser cut and then bent to simultaneously form a plurality of apertures and a corresponding plurality of louvers each extending adjacent one of the apertures. The apertures facilitate viewing of the LED sign and the louvers shield the light emitting diodes comprising the LED sign from excessive light.
