Laundromat Wastewater Treatment

US Patent:
5807487, Sep 15, 1998
Filed:
Mar 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/805881
Inventors:
William J. Lahti - Stony Brook NY
Assignee:
I.P. Licensing, Inc. - Bohemia NY
International Classification:
C02F 142, C02F 152
US Classification:
210665
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for treating wastewater effluent from diversely laundered household wash as in a laundromat provides for collecting and holding the effluent in a first tank for at least an average wash cycle for equalization and to a pH of 8. 5 to 11, and then transferring the equalized wastewater to a second tank for acidification to a first predetermined pH of not less than about 6. 5 and preferably 6. 5 to 6. 9, and then adding a coagulant, preferably a PAC with a basicity of 45 to 50%, to effect a second predetermined pH of not less than about 5. 0 and preferably 5. 2 to 5. 4 for coagulation at the second pH to form treated water and a sludge. The treated water is decanted from the sludge and filtered to remove 1 to 50 micron particulates. The filtered water is then passed through a weak base anion exchange resin to remove MBAS to provide treated water. The system produces treated water which meets present day stringent environmental standards for discharge to subsurface aquifers, surface or for reuse or recycle.

Laundromat Wastewater Treatment

US Patent:
6159376, Dec 12, 2000
Filed:
Sep 11, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/151989
Inventors:
William J. Lahti - Stony Brook NY
Assignee:
I.P. Licensing, Inc. - Bohemia NY
International Classification:
C02F 142
US Classification:
210665
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the treatment of wastewater effluent from a laundromat combines multiple filtering, particularly including, bag filters, to remove particulates including fine particulates followed by treatment in a weak base anion exchange resin bed to remove MBAS. The weak base resin was found to remove MBAS and organics such as LAS which were highly de-adsorbed in the efficient regeneration of the resin. The weak base anion exchange resin is preferably macroporous in the sulfate form. The invention contemplates multiple bag filters of different degrees of coarseness.

Car Wash Wastewater Treatment

US Patent:
6042730, Mar 28, 2000
Filed:
Sep 11, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/151990
Inventors:
William J. Lahti - Stony Brook NY
International Classification:
B01D 2101, C02F 152
US Classification:
210667
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for treating wastewater effluent from a commercial car wash provides for collecting and holding the effluent in a first tank for equalization and to a pH of about 7. 0 to 9. 5, and then transferring the equalized wastewater to a second tank for either caustification or acidification to a first predetermined pH of up to 10. 0, and preferably 8. 2 to 8. 6, and most preferably 8. 4, and then adding a coagulant, preferably a polyaluminum chloride (PAC) with a basicity of 45 to 50% at 400 to 600 ppm, to a second predetermined pH of 6. 2 to 7. 0 and preferably 6. 6 to 7. 0, and most preferably 6. 8, to effect coagulation at the second pH to form treated water and a sludge. The treated water is decanted from the sludge and filtered to remove 1 to 50 micron particulates. The filtered water is acidified and then passed through a weak base anion exchange resin to remove MBAS to provide treated water.
