Solar Greenhouse For Growing Plants

US Patent:
5056259, Oct 15, 1991
Filed:
Mar 27, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/329378
Inventors:
William M. Allen - Louisville KY
International Classification:
A01G 918
US Classification:
47 17
Abstract:
A solar greenhouse includes a peripheral wall structure defining a partially enclosed area having an open side through which plants can be placed inside for admitting light into the greenhouse, and a roof over the wall structure. The roof is removable from over the peripheral wall structure to provide for the easy installation, removal, or rearranging the plants. The inside surfaces of the wall structure and roof are light reflecting to reflect light entering the greenhouse through the open side toward the plants inside the greenhouse. The greenhouse also includes a floor which is a separate component from the peripheral wall structure. The exposed surface of the floor can also be light reflecting. The inclination of the roof relative to the horizontal can be changed to adjust the angle of light reflection of the roof. The solar greenhouse can also include a reticulated panel positionable over the open side of the greenhouse to partially screen light entering the greenhouse as may be needed from time to time without having to reposition or otherwise remove the greenhouse from its location.

Method For The Preparation Of Water-Soluble Keratinaceous Protein Using Saturated Steam And Water

US Patent:
4172073, Oct 23, 1979
Filed:
Apr 10, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/894666
Inventors:
Shakeel H. Kadri - Hanover PA
William M. Allen - Louisville KY
John H. Pikel - Oak Lawn IL
Assignee:
Chemetron Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
A23J 110
US Classification:
2601237
Abstract:
A substantially completely water-soluble and pepsin-digestible protein is obtained by the hydrolysis of the keratin contained in animal structures with saturated steam at a pressure of from about 50 to about 250 p. s. i. g. or higher and from about 5 to about 30 parts of liquid water per part of the keratin source, by weight, at the temperature of saturated steam at the pressure employed. Conversion of the keratin to soluble protein and meal is about 80%; the yield of water-soluble protein being as high as about 70%. The water-soluble protein is an excellent animal food.

Rendering Dryer

US Patent:
4353413, Oct 12, 1982
Filed:
Sep 8, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/184710
Inventors:
William M. Allen - Louisville KY
Gordon C. Trabue - Louisville KY
Assignee:
Chemetron Process Equipment, Inc. - Louisville KY
International Classification:
F28D 1104
US Classification:
165 92
Abstract:
A dryer is provided with interacting heat transfer stator and rotor for improved processing capability. The stator comprises a stationary row of planar heat exchange banks supported within the vessel of the dryer. The rotor has a complemental number of annular heat exchange vanes interleaved between the heat exchange banks of the stator to create desired low-level agitation of the processed material as the rotor turns and to provide increased heat transfer efficiency. The vanes on the rotor and the banks of the stator each comprise an open grillwork of tubular members whereby the processed material may flow freely through the vanes and banks for additionally increased heat transfer efficiency and reduced residence time for the material.
