Method Of Producing Weld Metal Tubing Empoying A Reusable Mandrel

Method Of Producing Weld Metal Tubing Empoying A Reusable Mandrel

US Patent:
4830266, May 16, 1989
Filed:
Apr 29, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/187977
Inventors:
William T. Adams - Birmingham AL
Assignee:
American Cast Iron Pipe Company - Birmingham AL
International Classification:
B23K 3102, B23K 3524
US Classification:
228231
Abstract:
A method of producing substantially distortion-free weld metal tubing wherein a mandrel and a thin metal layer covering the mandrel are used to provide structural support for a starter tube while a weld metal is being deposited on the exterior surface of the starter tube to a desired thickness. The material used for the thin metal layer is selected to have a lower melting temperature than that of the mandrel, starter tube and weld metal, and after the weld metal deposit process is completed, the entire assembly is heated to a temperature in excess of the melting temperature of the thin metal layer, the molten material is flowed out from between the mandrel and the starter tube, thereby facilitating extraction of the mandrel from the weld metal tubing.

Ewa Monika Reppling Sack - Seattle WA, US
Liane F. Rulifson - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
H04W 60/00
US Classification:
4554351
Abstract:
A femto cell service framework is employed for registration, activation, and provisioning of femtocell service. An account management service enables femtocell account creation, and registration thereof. Registration includes validation of wireless coverage for a location of operation of a femto AP, and validation of availability enhanced 911 (E911) service. As part of registration provisioning, record(s) are updated to indicate registration status. Connection of femto AP to a network interface triggers activation process; the femto AP delivers an activation request. A femto network validates registration of the connected femto AP and conducts a location tolerance check of a received actual location of the femto AP and a registered location. Upon tolerance validation, a cell identifier and radio frequency channel(s) are assigned to femto AP. When femto AP radiates wireless signal, network activation status indicators are provisioned. Handling of errors that arise during registration or activation is provided.

Ductile Iron Pipe Joint Employing A Coupling And Coupling Therefor

Ductile Iron Pipe Joint Employing A Coupling And Coupling Therefor

US Patent:
5480196, Jan 2, 1996
Filed:
Aug 15, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/288725
Inventors:
William T. Adams - Hoover AL
Assignee:
American Cast Iron Pipe Company - Birmingham AL
International Classification:
F16L 7100
US Classification:
285369
Abstract:
A pipe joint capable of transmitting high axial compressive loads includes a reduced wall thickness section at the ends of the pipe to be joined and a coupling sleeve supported in telescoping relation with the reduced wall thickness section. Shoulders formed at the ends of the reduced sections bear against the ends of the sleeve, and the ends of the reduced thickness sections bear against each other so that a portion of the axial compressive load is transmitted through the coupling sleeve and a portion through the reduced thickness sections and a substantially uniform unit stress is maintained. O-rings carried by the coupling sleeve provide a fluid-tight seal between the sleeve and the adjacent surface of the reduced thickness section of the pipe.

Bell And Spigot Joint For Steel Pipe

Bell And Spigot Joint For Steel Pipe

US Patent:
2002012, Sep 5, 2002
Filed:
Mar 1, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/795107
Inventors:
William Adams - Hoover AL, US
Gene Oliver - Hoover AL, US
International Classification:
F16L017/00
US Classification:
285/374000
Abstract:
A steel pipe element and a pipe joint for steel pipe are provided, in which the steel pipe element has a bell end including a necked-down terminal end, an annular recess portion extending axially inwardly of the necked-down portion, and being of greater interior diameter than a main cylindrical section of the pipe. A gasket retaining ring is secured in the bell end at a position extending circumferentially around the annular recess portion, and retains thereon a resilient gasket held in slight compression by the bell end of the pipe element. In the pipe joint, a spigot end of a second pipe element is inserted, in a “push-on” manner, into the bell end, whereupon the spigot end is engaged by the gasket, which itself is further compressed between the bell end and the spigot end, thereby providing a fluid-tight seal and an ability to allow for joint deflection at the joint.

Method Of Applying Flux

Method Of Applying Flux

US Patent:
4327798, May 4, 1982
Filed:
May 1, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/145482
Inventors:
Edward D. McCauley - Columbiana AL
James C. Farlow - Birmingham AL
William T. Adams - Birmingham AL
Assignee:
American Cast Iron Pipe Company - Birmingham AL
International Classification:
B22D 1302, B22D 2718
US Classification:
164 561
Abstract:
A method for introducing fluxing material (flux) into a tubular, centrifugal casting mold in the manufacture of centrifugally cast metallic tubes. The flux is injected directly into the pouring stream of the molten metal in a steady, continuous flow by the pressure from a stream of non-reactive gas such as nitrogen. The injection of the flux into the pouring stream begins only after the wetting of all the casting surfaces of the mold by the molten metal. This flux is supplied from a hopper with a variable speed control auger.
