Lighted Switch Apparatus

US Patent:
5903107, May 11, 1999
Filed:
Dec 30, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/774335
Inventors:
William G. Wade - Unity ME
International Classification:
H01H9/16
US Classification:
315129
Abstract:
A display apparatus for illuminating a switch is provided which includes a switch having an on and off position to control power from a power supply to a device. A light source is located near the switch to illuminate the switch. A diode is electrically connected between the on position of the switch and the light source. A first resistor is electrically connected between the off position of the switch and the light source. The first resistor is electrically in parallel with the switch and the diode. When the switch is in the off position, power is provided to the light source via the first resistor whereby the light source illuminates at a first brightness. When the switch is in the on position, power is provided to the light source via the diode whereby the light source illuminates at a second brightness which is greater than the first brightness. Thus, the light source is always illuminated to facilitate locating the switch, and the light source illuminates brightly when the switch is on so that a person can quickly determine whether the switch is in the on or off position.

Gear Position Indicator

US Patent:
5955972, Sep 21, 1999
Filed:
Sep 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/922619
Inventors:
William G. Wade - Unity ME
International Classification:
G08B 2100
US Classification:
340960
Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus for displaying state and transition state information of mechanical equipment. A sensor and display system is provided for displaying aircraft landing gear status and other mechanism status. In one embodiment, the system utilizes two light emitting diodes (LEDs) for each landing gear leg to display the current position of each gear leg. One yellow LED indicates gear UP and the second green LED shows gear DOWN position. When the control switch is moved to change the position of the gear, the indicator light which had been lit is extinguished, and the indicator for the desired position begins to flash, indicating gear movement. The indicator will continue to flash until the gear leg has reached the limit of travel, at which time the indicator stops flashing and glows steadily. Each gear leg indicator operates independently of the others, so that proper position of each gear leg can be confirmed and any malfunction can immediately be identified. In another embodiment the indicator light glows steadily while mechanical equipment is in a transition state, and the light flashes when the mechanical equipment reaches a desired position.
