Flow Control Device For Use With A Battery Formation Tub

US Patent:
4290444, Sep 22, 1981
Filed:
Jun 19, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/160936
Inventors:
William G. Bevan - Birdsboro PA
Assignee:
General Battery Corporation - Reading PA
International Classification:
F17D 100
US Classification:
137255
Abstract:
A flow control device adapted for use with a vertically aligned array of storage battery formation tubs, for controlling the fluid level within a formation tub, the flow device comprising a hollow cylindrical member capable of extending vertically between the drain of the formation tub in which the fluid level is to be controlled, and a second formation tub placed thereon; a first sleeve concentric with and slidingly engaging the upper portions of the cylindrical member and adapted to engage the drain of the upper formation tub; and a second sleeve concentric with and slidingly engaging the lower portions of the cylindrical member; wherein the second sleeve includes a first slot extending through the sleeve and to its lower most edge, and is capable of variably engaging second slots extending through the central portions of the cylindrical member to permit adjustment of the fluid level in the formation tub.

Method And Apparatus For Electrically Testing Elements Of Multi-Cell Batteries

US Patent:
4451791, May 29, 1984
Filed:
Mar 17, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/359014
Inventors:
Stuart S. Ostroff - Abington PA
William G. Bevan - Birdsboro PA
Assignee:
General Battery Corporation - Reading PA
International Classification:
G01N 2746
US Classification:
324434
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for electrically testing individual elements of multi-cell batteries comprises sequentially locating batteries at a test location whereat they are engaged by test probes which are sequentially associated with a testing device which tests the individual cells. If faults are detected, the individual faulty cell is marked. Auxiliary test indicator lights provide a visual indication of the individual testing of each cell as it occurs.

Unitary Battery Formation Tub

US Patent:
4325429, Apr 20, 1982
Filed:
May 27, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/153407
Inventors:
William G. Bevan - Birdsboro PA
Larry L. Sterling - Frankfort IN
Assignee:
General Battery Corporation - Reading PA
International Classification:
F28F 2502, F28F 926
US Classification:
165 80E
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming a plurality of batteries, comprising a fluid containing body having a base and opposing side walls, a series of supports positioned at the corners of the body defined by intersecting side walls, a fluid inlet manifold connected to a first side wall and communicating with the body, and a fluid outlet manifold connected to a second side wall horizontally opposing the first side wall and communicating with the body, wherein the body, the legs, the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet comprise a unitary structure. The apparatus is particularly adapted for stacking in a vertical array, providing a cascading fluid arrangement, by positioning the fluid outlet of a first, upper apparatus in vertical spaced relation to the inlet of a second, lower apparatus.
