Method Of Forming And The Resulting Membrane Composition For Surgical Site Preservation

US Patent:
2011027, Nov 3, 2011
Filed:
Dec 29, 2008
Appl. No.:
13/142294
Inventors:
Michael Keane - West Chester PA, US
William Miller - West Chester PA, US
Nigel Smith - Norwich, GB
Assignee:
Synthes USA, LLC - West Chester PA
International Classification:
A61B 17/00
US Classification:
606151
Abstract:
A method of forming and the resulting membrane composition for securement to a patient's bone or tissue to reduce the formation of tissue adhesions following a surgical procedure comprises a first component and a second component. The first component comprises a hydrogel including at least one crosslinked polymer. The second component comprises a textile component. The composition has a thickness between about two tenths of a millimeter (0.2 mm) to about six tenths of a millimeter (0.6 mm), a suture retention strength between about one Newton (1 N) to about thirteen Newtons (13 N), a static coefficient of friction between about one hundredth (0.01) and about one-half (0.5), a kinetic coefficient of friction between about one hundredth (0.01) and about one-half (0.5) and a flexibility of less than thirty millimeters (30 mm) bend length. A method of reducing the occurrence of tissue adhesions following surgery comprises applying the membrane composition to a surgical site.

Arcuate Fixation Member

US Patent:
2011009, Apr 28, 2011
Filed:
Apr 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/761101
Inventors:
Thomas Donner - Thibodaux LA, US
Lawton Laurence - West Chester PA, US
Jared Schoenly - West Chester PA, US
David Evans - West Chester PA, US
William Miller - West Chester PA, US
Kurt Schmura - West Chester PA, US
Assignee:
SYNTHES USA, LLC - West Chester PA
International Classification:
A61B 17/70, A61F 2/44
US Classification:
606264, 623 1711
Abstract:
Arcuate fixation members with varying configurations and/or features are provided, along with additional components for use therewith in provided fixation systems and intervertebral implant systems. The arcuate fixation members may be of varying lengths, cross sectional geometries, and/or cross sectional areas, and may be configured with various features such as heads configured to accept other fixation system components, tabs to allow arcuate fixation member-in-arcuate fixation member or fixation anchor-in-arcuate fixation member configurations. Applications of fixation systems and intervertebral implants systems utilizing arcuate fixation members are particularly suitable when a linear line-of-approach for delivering fixation members is undesirable.

Stitch Lock For Attaching Two Or More Structures

US Patent:
2012015, Jun 14, 2012
Filed:
Oct 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/283002
Inventors:
Jamie Manos - West Chester PA, US
Kevin Henrichsen - Philadelphia PA, US
William Miller - West Chester PA, US
Daniel Vennard - West Chester PA, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/04
US Classification:
606232
Abstract:
An anchor assembly can include at least one anchor member, such as a pair of anchor members that are configured to be implanted in a target anatomical location in a first configuration, and can subsequently be actuated to an expanded configuration that secures the anchor members in the target anatomy. The anchor assembly can further include a connector member configured as a stitch lock that attaches the pair of anchor members together across a gap so as to approximate the anatomical defect.

Filed:
Mar 11, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/722134
Inventors:
Jamie Manos - West Chester PA, US
Brian Rick Delamarter - Los Angeles CA, US
Dominique Messerli - West Chester PA, US
Brian Schmidt - West Chester PA, US
William Miller - West Chester PA, US
James Talbot - West Chester PA, US

Nigel G. Smith - Norwich, GB
Assignee:
DePuy Synthes Products, LLC - Raynham MA
International Classification:
A61B 17/04, A61B 17/10, A61B 17/12
US Classification:
606148, 606139, 606144
Abstract:
A soft tissue defect repair system for approximating defects, such as defects in the annulus fibrosus of an intervertebral disc, includes a cannulated rod through which is disposed a suture retrieval device. A strand of suture includes a locking or ratcheting knot pre-tied around the outside of the cannulated rod and a free end that is guided in and out of the soft tissue. A knot pusher fits around the cannulated rod, which is used to push the knot off of the cannulated rod after the stitching of the tissue is accomplished. The defect is approximated by tensioning the free end. Various suturing methods or patterns are disclosed for defect approximation.
