Robotic Automated Storage And Retrieval System Mixed Pallet Build System

US Patent:
2011023, Sep 29, 2011
Filed:
Mar 24, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/730348
Inventors:
William A. Bastian II - Carmel IN, US
Britt Calloway - Westfield IN, US
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
700217
Abstract:
A robotic automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) mixed pallet build system includes a rack that includes two or more verticals levels upon which items are stored. The mixed pallet build system further includes a three-dimensional robotic AS/RS that includes a carriage, robot arm, vertical lift, and horizontal propulsion system. The items from the rack are loaded upon the carriage to create a pallet. The carriage has a length that is shorter than the length of the rack. The robot arm is configured to stack the items from the racks onto the pallet. The vertical lift is configured to move the carriage vertically between the vertical levels of the racks. The horizontal propulsion system is configured to move the carriage horizontally along the rack so that the carriage is able to service the entire length of the rack. The three-dimensional robotic AS/RS also includes a stretch wrapper that progressively secures the layers of items on the pallet to prevent the items from falling off the pallet.

Inventory System With Image Display

US Patent:
2004020, Oct 21, 2004
Filed:
Aug 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/643197
Inventors:
William Bastian - Carmel IN, US
International Classification:
G06F007/00, H04Q001/00
US Classification:
340/005920, 700/213000, 340/825490
Abstract:
A pick/put to display (PTD) device includes an image display that allows the PTD device to display images related to a product, such as a picture of the product or an instructional video. By having the capability to display images of the product, the PTD device is able to reduce the risk that the wrong product will be picked or placed in a storage location. The image display further allows the PTD device to display arrows that can point in a multitude of directions. With the capability of having arrows point in numerous directions, a single PTD device is able to service multiple storage locations, thereby reducing the number of PTD devices needed. The PTD device is further capable of downloading and playing sound files for a product so that audio instructions or alerts can be played.

Inventory System With Barcode Display

US Patent:
2005014, Jun 30, 2005
Filed:
Dec 15, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/013251
Inventors:
William Bastian - Carmel IN, US
International Classification:
G06F007/04
US Classification:
340005920, 700213000, 340825490, 235385000, 340005910
Abstract:
A pick/put to display (PTD) device includes an image display that allows the PTD device to display images related to a product, such as a picture of the product, a barcode or an instructional video. By having the capability to display images of the product, the PTD device is able to reduce the risk that the wrong product will be picked or placed in a storage location. Multiple barcodes can be scanned rapidly without the need to re-aim the scanner.

Stabilizing Power Source For A Vehicle

US Patent:
2007006, Mar 22, 2007
Filed:
Sep 20, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/230962
Inventors:
William Bastian - Carmel IN, US
Elizabeth Sobota - Greenfield IN, US
Assignee:
Bastian Family Holdings, Inc. - Carmel IN
International Classification:
A61F 6/04
US Classification:
128844000
Abstract:
A power source for a vehicle includes at least one toroidal ring positioned in a housing. The toroidal ring includes magnetic material such as permanent magnets. The toroidal ring is magnetically levitated in the housing. A propulsion winding is coupled with the housing and energizable via a power signal to move the toroidal ring. Once moving, the magnetic material and the propulsion winding cooperate to produce electrical power and/or provide a stabilizing effect for the vehicle. In some applications, such as in an aircraft application, two or more toroidal rings may be used and rotated at counter directions so as to produce a predetermined net angular momentum.

Three-Dimensional Automated Pick Module

US Patent:
2008018, Jul 31, 2008
Filed:
Jan 25, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/626869
Inventors:
William A. Bastian - Carmel IN, US
Elizabeth Sobota - Greenfield IN, US
International Classification:
B65G 1/137
US Classification:
414277, 414267, 414807, 901 30
Abstract:
Individual items or multiple items are stored on vertical stacks (or racks) of conveyors. The stacks of conveyors are located on both sides of a vertical transport on which cartons, totes, and/or pallets are loaded. The vertical transport is able to be vertically lifted in a fashion similar to an elevator so that the totes on the conveyor can receive items from the various levels of the storage rack conveyors. To speed up the loading process, items can be loaded in the containers simultaneously from both sides of the container and/or sequentially. In one form, a cross-belt conveyor is used to load the items. Alternatively or additionally, robotic arms can be used to load the items. One or more conveyor drivers can be used to power multiple conveyors in order to index items to a loading position on the conveyors.

Wireless Directed Inventory System

US Patent:
2002007, Jun 13, 2002
Filed:
Dec 11, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/734360
Inventors:
William Bastian - Carmel IN, US
Hussam Alibrahim - Prospect KY, US
International Classification:
H04Q001/00
US Classification:
340/005920
Abstract:
A directed inventory system uses individual wireless pick-to modules, or individual wireless pick-from modules, or both, to aid inventory management services such as order fulfillment. Modules wirelessly receive servicing information directly from a processing computer, and transmit servicing status information directly to the computer. Light indicators or display panels on the modules provide information corresponding to a service to be performed, such as a quantity of parts to be picked from a bin, a location of a parts bin to pick from, a designation of a container to pick into, or other servicing information.
