NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS OT skills: Created one-handed bra clasp adaptation, custom-bent silverware and built up handles to compensate for spasticity, built peri hygiene tool from hardware store parts to compensate for morbid obesity/limited ROM, turned pizza cutter 90 up and 180 around to utilize existing grasp pattern to cut food. Assisted patient to regain ability to pour 12 oz. soda and to shave with smooth movements, without shoulder compensation, after 1 month of treatment, 6 months after hemi-neglect, hemiparesis, severe apraxia to dominant arm secondary to stroke. Using patience, humor, listening skills, times of silence, observation, was able to assist long-term care patient living with aphasia combined with strong accent (rendering him unintelligible), diminished cognition, severe depression to increase function, independence, ability to socialize and communicate. Cognizant of the equal importance of time management/productivity, patient safety, and client-centered interventions that allow patients to move toward the greatest possible independence. Able to gain cooperation of patients with cognitive impairments and/or behavioral issues, making marked improvement in broad scope of functional abilities beyond stated goals. Able to make use of broad knowledge-base/experiences to assist patients with depression/anxiety that often impact treatment to produce an upward spiral of outcomes. Patients report feeling heard and safe to express deeper concerns. Develop rapport quickly, creating an environment of trust that assists patients in working hard when asked to do challenging tasks, and creates an environment of collaborative team spirit.
