Optical Measurement Of Mitochondrial Function In Blood Perfused Tissue

US Patent:
2007026, Nov 15, 2007
Filed:
May 11, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/382879
Inventors:
Kenneth Schenkman - Seattle WA, US
Lorilee Arakaki - Bainbridge Island WA, US
Wayne Ciesielski - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600363000, 600310000
Abstract:
This document describes, among other things, monitoring of intracellular oxygenation using an optical probe coupled to a multi-wavelength spectrometer. Multivariate analysis of the spectrum data yields quantifiable cellular characteristics.

Determination Of Tissue Oxygenation In Vivo

US Patent:
2013022, Aug 29, 2013
Filed:
Nov 3, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/883279
Inventors:
Kenneth Schenkman - Seattle WA, US
Lorilee Arakaki - Bainbridge Island WA, US
Wayne Ciesielski - Seattle WA, US
Jeremy Shaver - Shoreline WA, US
Assignee:
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON THROUGH ITS CENTER FOR COMMERCIALIZATION - Seattle WA
International Classification:
A61B 5/1455
US Classification:
600328, 600473
Abstract:
A system and method for noninvasively determining the oxygenation of a tissue, for example, a muscle, in vivo uses optical methods to optically interrogate the tissue in both a visible wavelength range and a near infrared (NIR) wavelength range. The illuminating light is sculpted in intensity to approximately match the absorbance spectrum, for example, with the visible light having an intensity an order of magnitude greater than the light. Training data is obtained from healthy patients in both the visible and NIR ranges simultaneously and used to calculate muscle oxygenation.

2008020, Aug 21, 2008
Filed:
Nov 29, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/947242
Inventors:
Kenneth A. Schenkman - Seattle WA, US
Lorilee S.L. Arakaki - Bainbridge Island WA, US
Wayne A. Ciesielski - Seattle WA, US
Eric O. Feigl - Seattle WA, US
David H. Burns - Point Claire, CA
International Classification:
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600310
Abstract:
This document discloses, among other things, systems and methods for measuring a level of myoglobin, hemoglobin, and cytochrome using an optical probe coupled to a spectrometer. Multivariate analysis of the spectral data yields quantifiable cellular and mitochondrial characteristics.
