Vinod B. Doshi - Monroeville PA
James M. Toms - Irwin PA
Assignee:
Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation - Orlando FL
International Classification:
H01M 800
US Classification:
429 30, 429 17, 429 31, 429 34, 429 38
Abstract:
A solid oxide fuel cell generator ( ) contains stacks ( ) of hollow, tubular axially elongated fuel cells ( ) which can operate to generate electricity; a single oxidant inlet plenum ( ) including a bottom enclosing member, having hole therethrough which acts as an oxidant feed tube positioning board ( ); a fuel inlet plenum ( ); an oxidant/fuel exhaust chamber ( ); power leads ( ) electrically connected to the fuel cells transverse to the axis ( ′) of the fuel calls; and a plurality of oxidant feed tubes ( ); all surrounded by insulation ( ); where there are at least two fuel cell stacks arranged in a row next to each other, the oxidant feed tube positioning board at the bottom of the oxidant inlet plenum is a laminate of layers of porous alumino-silicate ceramic fibers bonded with a ceramic alumina binder and dense woven ceramic ( ) impregnated with ceramic adhesive ( ), and wherein the insulation constitutes, primarily, bulk ceramic fibers.

Air Feed Tube Support System For A Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Generator

Air Feed Tube Support System For A Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Generator

US Patent:
6444342, Sep 3, 2002
Filed:
Aug 18, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/642463
Inventors:
Vinod B. Doshi - Monroeville PA
Roswell J. Ruka - Pittsburgh PA
Charles A. Hager - Zelienople PA
Assignee:
Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation - Orlando FL
International Classification:
H01M 810
US Classification:
429 31, 429 34, 429 35
Abstract:
A solid oxide fuel cell generator ( ), containing tubular fuel cells ( ) with interior air electrodes ( ), where a supporting member ( ) containing a plurality of holes ( ) supports oxidant feed tubes ( ), which pass from an oxidant plenum ( ) into the center of the fuel cells, through the holes ( ) in the supporting member ( ), where a compliant gasket ( ) around the top of the oxidant feed tubes and on top ( ) of the supporting member ( ) helps support the oxidant feed tubes and center them within the fuel cells, and loosen the tolerance for centering the air feed tubes.

Electrochemical Cell Apparatus Having An Exterior Fuel Mixer Nozzle

Electrochemical Cell Apparatus Having An Exterior Fuel Mixer Nozzle

US Patent:
5169730, Dec 8, 1992
Filed:
Jul 25, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/559103
Inventors:
Philip Reichner - Plum Borough PA
Vinod B. Doshi - Monroeville PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corp. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
H01M 806
US Classification:
429 20
Abstract:
An electrochemical apparatus (10) is made having a generator section (22) containing electrochemical cells (16), a fresh gaseous feed fuel inlet (28), a gaseous feed oxidant inlet (30), and at least one hot gaseous spent fuel recirculation channel (46), where the spent fuel recirculation channel (46), a portion of which is in contact with the outside of a mixer chamber (52), passes from the generator chamber (22) to combine with the fresh feed fuel inlet (28) at the entrance to the mixer chamber, and a mixer nozzle (50) is located at the entrance to the mixer chamber, where the mixer chamber (52) connects with the reforming chamber (54), and where the mixer-diffuser chamber (52) and mixer nozzle (50) are exterior to and spaced apart from the combustion chamber (24), and the generator chamber (22), and the mixer nozzle (50) can operate below 400. degree.
