I believe in treating any illness from a bio-psycho-social standpoint of view. What that means is 1. Biology - the body that you are given with if there are any chemical imbalances, I will treat with medications (Psychopharmacology) 2.Psychological- meaning understanding your unique experiences (trauma, positive experiences, family values) an how they have shaped your thinking and how that can lead to mental illness and treating that with psychotherapy. 3. Social - Will evaluate and see what are the things going on in your life that are stressful and what are the things that are positive in your life, will make suggestions to decrease stressors and how to use the positive things in life to get better. I also teach meditation and relaxation exercises. I do not believe in prescribing narcotic medications for extended periods of time. I do know there's a role for medications like sedative or tranquilizers but I don't believe in prescribing such medications for years.
