Methods And Kits For Decontaminating Fuel Cells

US Patent:
6358639, Mar 19, 2002
Filed:
Aug 27, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/384640
Inventors:
Uriel M. Oko - Glenmont NY
Nicholas Childs - Troy NY
Assignee:
Plug Power LLC - Latham NY
International Classification:
H01M 804
US Classification:
429 17, 429 19, 429 34, 429 12
Abstract:
Methods and kits for removing contaminants from fuel cells are disclosed. The methods include passing a removal substance through a flow channel in the cell, where the substance is selected to remove the contaminant. The contaminants can be, e. g. , metallic ions or organic compounds, and the removal substance can be, e. g. , acidic or alkaline solutions, chelating agents, or oxidants.

Fuel Cell Stack Rejuvenation

US Patent:
6558824, May 6, 2003
Filed:
Sep 27, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/670632
Inventors:
Gregory Muchnic - Sinderd, IL
Uriel M. Oko - Glenmont NY
Christopher S. Dannehy - Albany NY
Assignee:
Plug Power Inc. - Latham NY
International Classification:
H01M 804
US Classification:
429 13, 429 17, 429 39
Abstract:
A technique includes applying a vacuum to a manifold of a fuel cell stack to remove accumulated water from the stack. As an example, a fuel cell system may include a fuel cell stack that is capable of accumulating water. A vacuum system of the fuel cell system applies a vacuum to the fuel cell stack to remove at least some of the accumulated water.

Regulating A Flow Through A Fuel Cell

US Patent:
6218038, Apr 17, 2001
Filed:
Aug 24, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/382293
Inventors:
Uriel M. Oko - Glenmont NY
Wieslaw J. Zielinski - Latham NY
Assignee:
Plug Power, Inc. - Latham NY
International Classification:
H01M 200
US Classification:
429 34
Abstract:
An assembly includes fuel cell plates and a valve. The fuel cell plates are arranged to form a fuel cell, and the plates establish a manifold passageway to communicate a fluid for the fuel cell. At least one of the plates includes flow channels to communicate the fluid through the fuel cell. The valve selectively regulates communication of the fluid between the manifold passageway and the channels.

Fuel Cell System Having Humidification Membranes

US Patent:
6284399, Sep 4, 2001
Filed:
Sep 17, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/397830
Inventors:
Uriel M. Oko - Glenmont NY
James H. Kralick - Albany NY
Assignee:
Plug Power LLC - Latham NY
International Classification:
H01M 818
US Classification:
429 19
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fuel cell system having membranes that are used to humidify reactant gases. The membranes effectively prevent contamination of the reactant gases during humidification. The membranes can be used to purify the reactant gases during humidification.
