Method And System For The Torrefaction Of Lignocellulosic Material

US Patent:
2012004, Feb 23, 2012
Filed:
Aug 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/210980
Inventors:
Joseph RAWLS - Alpharetta GA, US
Bertil Stromberg - Diamond Point NY, US
John Weston - Queensbury NY, US
Xiaoping Jiang - Queensbury NY, US
Tyson Hunt - Saratoga Springs NY, US
Assignee:
Andritz Technology and Asset Management GmbH - Graz
International Classification:
C10L 5/44, F28D 21/00
US Classification:
44606, 422208
Abstract:
A method for torrefaction of lignocellulosic biomass using a torrefaction reactor vessel having stacked trays, the method including: continuously feeding the biomass to an upper inlet of the torrefaction reactor vessel such that the biomass material is deposited on an upper tray of a plurality of trays stacked vertically within the reactor; as the biomass moves across an upper surface of each of the trays, heating and drying the biomass material with a gas injected into the vessel, wherein the gas is substantially non-oxidizing of the biomass, is under a pressure of at least 20 bar gauge and at a temperature of at least 200° C.; cascading the biomass down through the trays by passing the biomass through an opening in each of the trays to deposit the biomass on a lower tray; discharging torrefied biomass from a lower outlet of the torrefaction reactor vessel, and circulating gas extracted from a lower elevation of the reactor vessel to an upper region of the reactor vessel.

Methods And Systems For The Use Of Recycled Filtrate In Bleaching Pulp

Methods And Systems For The Use Of Recycled Filtrate In Bleaching Pulp

US Patent:
2008020, Aug 28, 2008
Filed:
Feb 26, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/037189
Inventors:
Tyson Bradford Hunt - Saratoga Springs NY, US
Assignee:
ANDRITZ INC. - Glens Falls NY
International Classification:
D21C 9/147
US Classification:
162 78, 68212
Abstract:
A system for the bleaching of lignocellulosic pulp including: a first oxygen reactor and a second oxygen reactor connected in series to the first oxygen reactor, wherein each reactor bleaches the pulp; an upstream pulp washer that washes pulp and discharges washed pulp to a first pulp conduit having an outlet coupled to the first oxygen reactor; an oxygen supply conduit connected to the first pulp conduit and supplying oxygen to the washed pulp flowing through the first pulp conduit; a downstream pulp washer that washes bleached pulp discharged from the second oxygen reactor; a filtrate conduit receiving filtrate discharged from the downstream pulp washer; a second pulp conduit receiving bleaches pulp discharged from the first oxygen reactor and conveying the bleached pulp to the second oxygen reactor, wherein the filtrate conduit is connected to the second pulp conduit such that at least a portion of the filtrate in the filtrate conduit flows into the second pulp conduit, and a second oxygen supply conduit connected to the second pulp conduit and introducing oxygen to the pulp flowing through the conduit.

Compact Feed System And Method For Comminuted Cellulosic Material

US Patent:
2010031, Dec 16, 2010
Filed:
Jun 4, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/793965
Inventors:
Tyson Bradford HUNT - Saratoga Springs NY, US
Bertil STROMBERG - Diamond Point NY, US
Assignee:
ANDRITZ INC. - Glens Falls NY
International Classification:
D21C 5/00, D21C 7/08
US Classification:
162 52, 162246, 162232
Abstract:
A feed system for a comminuted cellulosic material including: a chip bin having an upper chip inlet, an interior chamber oriented generally vertically and a lower discharge port; at least one liquor inlet to the chip bin to inject liquor in the chip bin, wherein the chip bin retains sufficient liquor and chips within the interior chamber to create a hydraulic pressure on the chips at the lower discharge port; a generally horizontally oriented chip conveyor or tube coupled to the lower discharge port to receive the chips and liquor from the bin under the hydraulic pressure, wherein the conveyor or tube includes liquor injectors which inject liquor into the chips and the conveyor or tube, and a high pressure transfer device coupled to a discharge of the conveyor or tube to receive the chips and liquor, whereby the hydraulic pressure of the chips and liquor at the discharge of the chip bin is sufficient to feed the chips and liquor to the high pressure transfer device.

Vapor Relief Screen Basket Cleaning Brush And Method

Vapor Relief Screen Basket Cleaning Brush And Method

US Patent:
2014000, Jan 9, 2014
Filed:
Jun 6, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/911145
Inventors:
Tyson Bradford Hunt - Saratoga Springs NY, US
International Classification:
B08B 1/00
US Classification:
134 8, 15246
Abstract:
A brush for dislodging impurities on steam relief screen basket within an operating vessel including at least one brush that includes an elongated support column with a brush attached to a first end of the elongated support column extends out of a seal located on a removable vessel cover of the vessel. The steps using the brush to dislodge impurities on steam relief screen basket include locating the brush comprised of a plurality of bristles adjacent to the steam relief screen basket, contacting the brush with the screen basket, extending the elongated support column through the seal, closing the removable vessel cover of the vessel to avoid pressure drop inside the vessel, and moving the brush from a first location on the screen basket to a second location on the screen basket to dislodge impurities attached to the screen basket.
