Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01R 4/60
US Classification:
439212
Abstract:
A maintenance-free electrical bus assembly is provided for a switchgear cabinet. The maintenance-free electrical bus assembly is coupled to a switchgear device in the cabinet, and includes electrical bus members, at least one bus joint comprising an electrical connection of two or more electrical bus members, and a fastener assembly fastening the bus joint and maintaining the electrical connection between the electrical bus members thereof. The fastener assembly includes at least one first fastening element having a plurality of first threads, and at least one second fastening element having a plurality of second threads. The second threads threadably engage the first threads of a corresponding first fastening element, in order to perpetually secure the first threads and the corresponding first fastening element, and to resist undesirable loosening of the bus joint once the fastener assembly has been fastened. Thus, inaccessible bus joints within the cabinet do not need to be inspected.

Appl. No.:
8/403330
Inventors:
Timothy G. Robirds - Sumter SC
Mark L. Allen - Sumter SC
Ralph E. Baker - Sumter SC
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H02H 504
US Classification:
361104
Abstract:
A circuit interruption apparatus for a power circuit having a power source and a load includes a termination mechanism for interconnection with the power source and the load; a circuit interrupter having a line terminal and a load terminal for interrupting the power circuit between the power source and the load; and a pivot mechanism for pivoting the circuit interrupter between a first position wherein the line terminal and the load terminal are interconnected with the termination mechanism, and a second position wherein one of the line terminal and the load terminal is disconnected from the termination mechanism. Alternatively, a circuit interruption apparatus for the power circuit may include a line termination mechanism for interconnection with the power source; a circuit interrupter having a line terminal and a load termination mechanism for interconnection with the load; and a pivot mechanism for pivoting the circuit interrupter between the first position and the second position. Alternatively, a circuit interruption apparatus for a power circuit may include a circuit interrupter having a trip lever mechanism for tripping open the power circuit and for interrupting the power circuit between the power source and the load; and a fuse in series with the circuit interrupter between the power source and the load for interrupting the power circuit therebetween and having a striker pin for engaging the trip lever mechanism and tripping open the power circuit whenever the fuse interrupts the power circuit.

Electrical Switching Apparatus, And Stored Energy Assembly And Energy Storage And Release Control Mechanism Therefor

US Patent:
8610014, Dec 17, 2013
Filed:
Sep 8, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/227561
Inventors:
Timothy Gordon Robirds - Sumter SC, US
Michael Davis Pearce - Plum Branch SC, US
Michael Lee Herbst - Greenwood SC, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 5/00
US Classification:
200400
Abstract:
An energy storage and release control mechanism is provided for a stored energy assembly of an electrical switching apparatus. The stored energy assembly includes a shaft, a stored energy mechanism, and a charging mechanism, such as a charging cam. The charging cam is movable to pivot upon the shaft, thereby charging the stored energy mechanism. The energy storage and release control mechanism includes a ratchet coupled to the charging cam and including a plurality of teeth, a mounting assembly, and a plurality of pawl assemblies. Each pawl assembly includes a pawl pivoting between an engaged position corresponding to the pawl engaging the teeth of the ratchet to resist inappropriate movement of the charging handle, and a disengaged position corresponding to the pawl not engaging the teeth of the ratchet. Preferably, first and second pawl assemblies include first and second pawls, respectively, wherein only one of the first and second pawls engages the teeth of the ratchet at a time.

Electrical System, And Electrical Switching Apparatus And Shutter Assembly Therefor

US Patent:
8331081, Dec 11, 2012
Filed:
Nov 22, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/951119
Inventors:
Michael Howard Abrahamsen - Greenwood SC, US
Jon Christopher Beaver - Greenwood SC, US
David Andrew Venker - St. Louis MO, US
Timothy Gordon Robirds - Sumter SC, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H02B 1/20, H01H 9/00
US Classification:
361617, 361637, 361639, 361640, 200 5021, 200 5022
Abstract:
A shutter assembly is provided for an electrical system including at least one electrical switching apparatus, such as a circuit breaker, and a plurality of electrical bus members, and a plurality of electrical cable members, and a ground member with a plurality of contacts. Each of the conductors of the circuit breaker is removably coupled to a corresponding primary contact to electrically connect the circuit breaker to the electrical bus members and to electrically connect the circuit breaker to the electrical cable members and to electrically connect the circuit breaker to the ground members. The shutter assembly includes a flexible insulating member movably disposed between the conductors and the primary contacts. The flexible insulating member moves between a first position in which it provides access for the conductors to be coupled to the primary contacts, and a second position in which the flexible insulating member isolates and electrically insulates the bus member conductors from the primary contacts and the cable member conductors (“disconnected”) or isolates and electrically insulates the cable member conductors from the primary contacts and the ground member (“withdrawn”). An electrical switching apparatus and an electrical system employing the shutter assembly are also disclosed.
