Polycrystalline Silicon Carbide Ceramic Wafer And Substrate

US Patent:
6309766, Oct 30, 2001
Filed:
Apr 21, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/295091
Inventors:
Thomas M. Sullivan - Indianapolis IN
International Classification:
B32B 1900
US Classification:
428698
Abstract:
A substrate made of polycrystalline. beta. SiC and having an essentially pore free surface is disclosed. The substrate is adapted for use as a wafer component to support different thinfilms as part of manufacturing for discrete or integrated circuit electronic devices. The substrate comprises a polycrystalline silicon carbide outer surface with {111} crystal planes exposed on the working surface, the outer surface is essentially pore free or without exposed pores, scratches, steps or other such depressions or discontinuities on the surface of the substrate having at least one dimension larger than 2. 54 microns, and no non-stoichiometric silicon or carbon other than that which may be residual from the process of making silicon carbide ceramic material.

Apparatus And Method Of Cleansing Contaminated Air Using Microwave Radiation

US Patent:
2007016, Jul 26, 2007
Filed:
Feb 15, 2005
Appl. No.:
10/589948
Inventors:
Thomas Sullivan - Indianapolis IN, US
International Classification:
B03C 3/00
US Classification:
096015000
Abstract:
An air conditioning system uses microwaves to effectively destroy airborne contaminants. In one mode, air () is passed through a microwave-transparent tube () and is subjected to microwaves in the presence of one or more of water, water vapor, steam or hydrogen to cause destructive dipole polarization, electrical coupling, hydrolysis, and/or interfacial polarization of the contaminants or impurities found in the air (). In another mode, solids or liquids are decontaminated by subjecting the objects to microwaves. Paramagnetic dust particles in the air, especially underground railway air, can also be removed using an electromagnet.
