Process For Manufacturing Strip Lead Frames

US Patent:
4055062, Oct 25, 1977
Filed:
Oct 7, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/730401
Inventors:
Jack P. Martin - Lower Burrell PA
Thomas H. Gray - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Allegheny Ludlum Industries, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B21B 4500
US Classification:
72 47
Abstract:
There is disclosed a process for producing strip material useful for making lead frames which includes preparing a ferritic stainless steel substrate as a thin strip and, before subjecting it to finish rolling, electroplating it with a first layer of copper and an outside layer of nickel or tin, after which the strip is precision rolled to final gauge. There is also disclosed the product from this process which is a precision rolled strip having a core of ferritic stainless steel and a continuous surface layer of nickel or tin with an intermediate layer of copper.

Amorphous Metals And Articles Made Thereof

US Patent:
4450206, May 22, 1984
Filed:
May 27, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/382823
Inventors:
S. Leslie Ames - Sarver PA
Thomas H. Gray - Pittsburgh PA
Lewis L. Kish - Sarver PA
Assignee:
Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B21C 3700
US Classification:
428606
Abstract:
An amorphous Fe-B-Si alloy and article made therefrom is provided having improved castability while maintaining good magnetic properties, ductility and improved thermal stability. Fe-B-Si alloys containing 0. 1-4. 0% Cr, in atomic percent, have improved castability and amorphousness. An alloy is provided generally consisting essentially of 6-10% B, 14-17% Si, 0. 1-4. 0% Cr, and the balance iron, and no more than incidental impurities. A method of casting an amorphous strip material from the alloy is also provided.

Method Of Annealing An Aperture Shadow Mask For A Color Cathode Ray Tube

US Patent:
4769089, Sep 6, 1988
Filed:
Aug 25, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/089639
Inventors:
Thomas H. Gray - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Allegheny Ludlum Corporation - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
C21G 900
US Classification:
148 12C
Abstract:
An aperture mask comprised of a nickel-iron alloy having a low thermal expansion for a color CRT is produced by combining a first annealing to produce a low coercive force and mechanical properties desirable for a warm forming operation during which a desired profile of the mask is produced with minimized springback and a second annealing after forming to provide a stress free low coercive force mask also having an oxidized high thermal emissivity surface. Wherein the process requires control of the atmospheres and oxidizing potentials in the two annealing steps.
