Concealed Fasteners For Wall Panels

US Patent:
4127975, Dec 5, 1978
Filed:
Aug 26, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/828097
Inventors:
Thomas Judkins - Baltimore MD
International Classification:
E04B 552
US Classification:
52489
Abstract:
An improved method and means for attaching a panel of sheet rock or gypsum board to either wooden or metal studs for constructing walls and/or ceilings, etc. The studs are spaced apart from their centers the distance of the width of the panel. The panel is held to the studs by clips having one or more pointed piercing elements adapted to engage the edge of the panel with a holding portion of the clip extending outwardly from the main base portion of the clip and in the opposite direction from the pointed end of the piercing elements, having an aperture through the holding portion for securing the clips to the studs. The clips are further provided with spacer elements extending outwardly on the surface of the clip opposite the panel piercing elements for spacing the edge of the panels outwardly from the studs. This spacing of the panels from the studs will minimize the noises picked up by the panels from being transferred to the studs.

Ceiling Panel Attachment Member

US Patent:
4580382, Apr 8, 1986
Filed:
Sep 10, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/649175
Inventors:
Thomas E. Judkins - Baltimore MD
Thomas J. Stanton - Elliott City MD
International Classification:
E04B 557
US Classification:
52489
Abstract:
An improved ceiling attachment member is provided for attaching flanged ceiling panels having flanges along both lateral edges thereof to a ceiling structure to form a ceiling. The attachment member comprising an elongate support element which is secured to the ceiling structure and which provides for attachment of a plurality of such flanged ceiling panels thereto so that the ceiling panels are supported thereby and are thus suspended from the ceiling structure. A plurality of pairs of attachment lugs are partially punched out of the support element to extend outwardly at an angle therefrom are disposed at an acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the support element so that the edges thereof engage the lateral flanges of a corresponding ceiling panel, and support the panel in a position wherein the panel extends traversely to the longitudinal axis of the support element and is spaced a predetermined distance from the adjacent panels and such that lugs additionally serve in guiding the ceiling panel into position during the installation thereof.

Fastener Strip For Building Wall Constructions

US Patent:
4480416, Nov 6, 1984
Filed:
Oct 28, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/437462
Inventors:
Thomas E. Judkins - Baltimore MD
Thomas J. Stanton - Ellicott City MD
International Classification:
E04B 188, E04B 228
US Classification:
52376
Abstract:
A fastener strip is provided which is utilized in a building wall construction comprising sheets of foamed plastic such as polystyrene affixed to a concrete wall and covered by panels of gypsum or the like. The fastener strips are positioned over the foamed sheeting and assist in nailing the sheeting to the wall. The cover panels are screwed to the fastener strips. The fastener strips comprises a relatively thin, generally planar strip of material which includes a plurality of reinforcing ribs therein to provide strengthening of the strip and a series of teeth cut out of the body of the strip for engaging the foamed sheeting so as to hold the strip in the appropriate position for nailing. The teeth are formed simultaneously with rolling of the fastener strip from a roll-forming machine.

Support Clip For Ceiling Constructions

US Patent:
4735030, Apr 5, 1988
Filed:
Sep 23, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/910474
Inventors:
Thomas Judkins - Baltimore MD
Assignee:
The Judkins Associations, Inc. - Baltimore MD
International Classification:
E04B 200
US Classification:
52762
Abstract:
A safety device is provided for combatting "wind load" on ceiling constructions in both upward and downward directions, particularly in ceilings of the type wherein flanged panels are supported from tee shaped panel carriers which are suspended from the ceiling. The safety device comprises an inverted U-shaped clip or wire which fits over the panel carrier so that the central portion of the clip bears against the horizontal upper surface of the associated panel carrier and the legs of the clip engage and support the corners of four panels which meet a point beneath the central portion of the clip. The free ends of the clip preferably include bent-up portions which engage in holes provided in the corresponding flanges of the panels.
