US Patent:
4013862, Mar 22, 1977
Filed:
Jan 17, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/541738
Inventors:
Thomas J. O'Connor - Ann Arbor MI
International Classification:
B23P 108
US Classification:
219 69E
Abstract:
A tool holder for supporting a tool for both sliding and pivotal movement in two relatively perpendicular directions including a generally cylindrical base having a dovetail connecting portion on one end thereof and a double diameter recess in the other end thereof, a generally cylindrical tool supporting member having a radially outwardly extending flange on one end thereof fitting within the larger diameter portion of the recess in the base, a recess extending into the one end of the tool supporting member, a pair of rods extending perpendicularly to each other, one extending across the smaller diameter portion of the recess in the base and the other extending across the recess in the tool supporting member, and a connecting member pivotally and slidably secured at the opposite ends thereof on the rods, two pairs of spaced apart relatively perpendicularly located pivot angle adjusting screws extending through the flange of the tool supporting member into engagement with the base, and two pairs of transverse position adjusting screws extending relatively perpendicularly to each other transversely through the base and into contact with the tool supporting member.

Structure For And Method Of Total Form Abrasion Machining

Structure For And Method Of Total Form Abrasion Machining

US Patent:
3988863, Nov 2, 1976
Filed:
Nov 20, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/633614
Inventors:
Thomas J. O'Connor - Ann Arbor MI
International Classification:
B24B 1900
US Classification:
51157
Abstract:
A machine for producing a rotary orbital motion between a cutting master having an abrasive mirror image surface of a form to be abraded into a friable material and a workpiece of friable material while moving the surface of the cutting master and workpiece into contact including adjustable eccentric means for varying the rotary orbital motion between the workpiece and the cutting master, a hydraulic piston and cylinder for moving the cutting master and workpiece into engagement with each other during imparting of the rotary orbital motion between the cutting master and workpiece, hydraulic means for applying predetermined variable pressure between the cutting master and workpiece, a control circuit for controlling the operation of the total form abrading machine including means for controlled pulsing of the cutting master away from the workpiece, and means for flushing between the electrode and workpiece during an abrading operation, and the method of using the total form abrading machine.

Method For Total Form Machining Of Metal

Method For Total Form Machining Of Metal

US Patent:
4156327, May 29, 1979
Filed:
Apr 12, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/675964
Inventors:
Thomas J. O'Connor - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Easco-Sparcatron, Inc. - Ann Arbor MI
International Classification:
B24B 100
US Classification:
51281R
Abstract:
The method of abrasion forming friable material such as carbon blocks to form electrical discharge machining electrodes therefrom comprising the steps of moving a master model, having an abrasive surface which is a mirror image of a desired form to be abrasion machined in the friable material, which surface is related in size to the desired form to be machined by an additional movement to be imparted to the master model, toward the friable material with the abrasive surface of the master model and workpiece in engagement while imparting the additional relative motion between the master model and workpiece, which additional relative motion is in all directions in a plane perpendicular to the direction of movement of the master model and workpiece and flushing between the master model and workpiece to prevent build up of abraded particles of the workpiece on the master model.

Machining Structure

Machining Structure

US Patent:
3962830, Jun 15, 1976
Filed:
Dec 3, 1973
Appl. No.:
5/420808
Inventors:
Thomas J. O'Connor - Ann Arbor MI
International Classification:
B24B 700
US Classification:
51 58
Abstract:
A tool for universal movement of a cutting member in a plane perpendicular to a predetermined direction of movement of the cutting member is disclosed. The tool is disclosed in conjunction with an abrasive electrode form having a shape which is the reverse image of an electrode to be produced thereby and which is constructed of abrasive particles held in a plastic matrix whereby an electrode may be abraded from electrode material on movement of the electrode form toward the electrode material in the predetermined direction. The structure for universally moving the electrode form cutting member in a plane perpendicular to the direction of movement of the cutting member includes relatively eccentric, and rotatable members positioned in two slides slidably mounted perpendicularly to each other.
