Stent Features For Collapsible Prosthetic Heart Valves

US Patent:
2012007, Mar 29, 2012
Filed:
Feb 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
13/203627
Inventors:
Peter N. Braido - Wyoming MN, US
Yousef F. Alkhatib - Edina MN, US
Thomas M. Benson - Minneapolis MN, US
Aaron J. Chalekian - Minneapolis MN, US
Ott Khouengboua - Chaska MN, US
Julia A. Neuman - Minneapolis MN, US
Assignee:
ST. JUDE MEDICAL, INC. - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
A61F 2/82, A61F 2/24
US Classification:
623 126, 623 217
Abstract:
A prosthetic heart valve includes a stent having an expanded condition and a collapsed condition. The stent includes a plurality of distal cells, a plurality of proximal cells, a plurality of support struts coupling the proximal cells to the distal cells, and at least one support post connected to a plurality of proximal cells. The proximal cells are longitudinally spaced apart from the distal cells. Various strut configurations and connections of the struts to the proximal cells and of the proximal cells to the support post improve stent flexibility and reduce stress in the valve leaflets.

Method Of Creating A Tip On A Catheter

US Patent:
6187130, Feb 13, 2001
Filed:
May 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/320329
Inventors:
John Berard - Plymouth MN
Jeff Voy Scheinost - Dayton MN
Thomas Mark Benson - Minneapolis MN
Diana Moore - Maple Grove MN
Assignee:
SciMed Life Systems, Inc. - Maple Grove MN
International Classification:
B29C 6502
US Classification:
156294
Abstract:
A method of forming a tip on a catheter having a elongate shaft. The method includes the step of positioning a first tubular member so that it is overlying the distal portion of the elongate shaft. The method further including the step of positioning a second tubular member so that a proximal end of the second tubular member is proximate a distal end of the first tubular member. The method further includes the step of positioning a third tubular member so that it overlays both the first tubular member and the second tubular member. At least the distal portion of the elongate shaft is then heated, wherein the first tubular member, the second tubular member, and the third tubular member are fused to form a catheter tip affixed to the distal portion of the elongate shaft.

Axially Anchoring Collapsible And Re-Expandable Prosthetic Heart Valves For Various Disease States

US Patent:
2011009, Apr 28, 2011
Filed:
Jul 15, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/737254
Inventors:
Peter N. Braido - Wyoming MN, US
Julia A. Neuman - Minneapolis MN, US
Thomas M. Benson - Minneapolis MN, US
International Classification:
A61F 2/82, A61F 2/24
US Classification:
623 116, 623 126, 623 219
Abstract:
A stent () for use in a prosthetic heart valve has an annulus section () adapted for placement within the leaflets and annulus of the native heart valve. The annulus section has latch members () adapted to engage the leaflets of the native heart valve when prosthetic valve is implanted in the native valve. The latch members may hold the leaflets in engagement with the annulus section, and help to retain the prosthetic valve in position. The annulus section may have a non-circular cross-sectional shape.
