In-Ear Auditory Device And Methods Of Using Same

US Patent:
2008020, Aug 28, 2008
Filed:
Jul 18, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/996138
Inventors:
Alexander L. Darbut - Edina MN, US
Thomas Bruce Odegard - Minneapolis MN, US
International Classification:
H04R 25/00
US Classification:
381328
Abstract:
An in-ear auditory device and methods of using same. The in-ear auditory device has a receiver sized to fit within an ear canal of a user, a transducer and an isolator disposed to substantially acoustically isolate the transducer from the receiver. The in-ear auditory device may include a bone vibration sensor acoustically or mechanically coupled to the transducer to detect the user's speech. The in-ear auditory device can further include a physiologic sensor to sense physiologic signals of the user. In use, the in-ear auditory device is coupled to an auxiliary device having circuitry to process signals to and from the in-ear auditory device. The auxiliary device may include wireless communication circuitry to communicate signals to and from remote communication or monitoring devices.

International Classification:
H04R 25/00
US Classification:
381330000
Abstract:
An auditory device is disclosed. The auditory device includes a behind-the-ear element and an at least partially in-ear element. The behind-the-ear element has a shell shaped to fit behind an outer portion of an ear of a user. The shell has first and second sides that are substantially parallel to each other. The first side faces the outer portion of the ear, and the second side faces a head of the user. The behind-the-ear element also includes sound processing circuitry within the shell. The behind-the-ear element further includes an ear cushion switch operatively connected to the sound processing circuitry. The ear cushion switch is located on the first side of the shell. The at least partially in-ear element includes a microphone, acoustic pickup pillow-pad, sensors, receiver and a cushioned tip. The at least partially in-ear element can include a closed ear detachable cushioned tip and an open ear detachable cushioned tip.
