Composition Of Matter And Method Of Making

US Patent:
5110785, May 5, 1992
Filed:
May 1, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/694355
Inventors:
Thomas B. Reed - Golden CO
William L. Mobeck - Denver CO
International Classification:
B01J 2024
US Classification:
502404
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a novel composition of matter which is prepared by subjecting at least one woodlike particle, such as a sawdust particle and preferably selected quantities of sawdust particles to a special treatment. Each particle has a cellular structure including a plurality of interconnected, generally tubular cell walls composed in part of hemicellulose that are subjected to a selectively controlled thermolytic heating above about 280. degree. C. but not above about 380. degree. C. and preferably between 300+ C. and 360. degree. C. to cause the hemicellulose to be converted to an oil-like oleophilic and hydrophobic substance on the cell walls and reduce the thickness of the cell walls to render the particle and particles oleophilic and hydrophobic. The product floats on water, absorbs oil, for absorbing hydrocarbons on the surface of water, and is an improved fuel both without and with the hydrocarbons.

Rear-Load Transfer System

US Patent:
2003021, Nov 13, 2003
Filed:
May 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/144428
Inventors:
Thomas Reed - Aurora CO, US
International Classification:
B65F009/00
US Classification:
414/400000
Abstract:
The present invention teaches a waste container, especially a roll-off waste container, having a gate at one end, a waste transfer system to push wastes within the container out the gate, and lifting devices which raise the container to approximately the level of a garbage truck's hopper. The hopper may be the fixed rear hopper of a rear-load truck or a special container for a front load truck. The present invention furthermore teaches a new system for waste handling. Wastes are placed into a container, the container is raised, and the wastes are transferred to a garbage truck. The present invention may be used industrially, in construction, in residential settings, and commercially. The invention may be opened at sides or tops to meet the user's waste disposal needs, and may be connected to a building by a trash chute as is commonly used in compactor applications. The legs, gate, and transfer device may be hydraulically actuated, electrical, or may be actuated in other ways. Allowing servicing of roll-off containers by conventional garbage trucks as several advantages: it reduces the number of special roll-off hoist trucks required, it allows the garbage trucks to compact the wastes after transfer and it permits covered carrying of waste loads without special equipment. The apparatus may be actuated by being hooked to the hydraulic supply of the servicing truck, or from another nearby source, or it may have a self-contained power supply. A valve body mounted on the side of the apparatus, or a remote control device, may be used for control of operations.

Truck Lifted Rear-Load Transfer System

US Patent:
2007016, Jul 19, 2007
Filed:
Jan 19, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/336135
Inventors:
Thomas Reed - Aurora CO, US
International Classification:
B65F 3/26
US Classification:
414491000
Abstract:
A roll-off waste container having a gate at one end, and lifting devices using the power equipment of a garbage truck to raise one end of the container to approximately the level of the truck's hopper and container gate and the other end of the container higher so that waste within the container may slide out. A mechanical link may be attached and in use, the link may grab or connect to the container to be raised or a cable link may be attached to the truck hydraulics, and the cable may be attached to the container to be raised.

Process And Apparatus For Making A Densified Torrefied Fuel

US Patent:
2003022, Dec 4, 2003
Filed:
May 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/151459
Inventors:
Thomas Reed - Golden CO, US
International Classification:
C10L005/06
US Classification:
044/594000
Abstract:
I claim a process for producing a superior fuel from biomass by first torrefying the biomass and then densifying it to make pellets, cubes or logs with the steps of: heating biomass to a temperature of 150-300 C and preferably to 200-280 C in a heating device, and densification of the resulting torrefied biomass in a device that compresses the hot biomass to make pellets, cubes or logs. The process can be partially or totally self heating by burning the gaseous products of torrefaction in the oven surrounding the torrefication apparatus. The energy required for size reduction after torrefaction is greatly reduced and the energy required for densification is also greatly reduced.
