Philosophy:
Thomas Edison once said, I start where the last man left off. I often receive consults on patients who are looking for something beyond medications and tests. Exercise is tremendously important for people with multiple sclerosis, MS, as a way to improve walking, balance, function and quality of life. I work with an array of therapists and experts and nonprofit organizations to develop individualized physical and cognitive exercise programs for people with MS. Improving function may require medical equipment, ranging in size from a hearing aid to a hospital bed and from old to new technology. Through insurance and foundation support, I try to find the most affordable way to meet the need. I prescribe drugs and do research to improve symptoms and function for people with MS. Until we have a cure for MS, my approach is to be as comprehensive as possible. I work with a team who believe that all that we do should arise from caring about our patient. This means really listening, paying attention and making an extra phone call now and then to be sure that our patients needs are met.
