My approach is to listen to what the problems are and then perform any necessary tests to confirm what I suspect is going on or at least rule out the more serious or/and obvious disorders. Sometimes, the response to certain medications will also help in figuring out what is going on. This may be done quickly or it could take time, depending on how complex the set of problems are.
