Philosophy:
We feel that having an elective joint replacement surgery is a significant decision. Our goal is to educate patients about the procedure and their choices. Our web site jointreplacementassociates.com was created to allow access to information which is helpful and we try very hard to explain the details of surgery so that patients understand and are comfortable as they go through this process. I feel that every patient should recieve the same care as I would expect for my own family.

Cement Injection And Intramedullary Canal Drying System

US Patent:
5800439, Sep 1, 1998
Filed:
May 16, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/857421
Inventors:
Terry A. Clyburn - Houston TX
International Classification:
A61B 1756
US Classification:
606 94
Abstract:
An apparatus for use with a bone cement injection gun during pressurized injection of bone cement into the intramedullary canal of a bone prepared for implantation of a prosthetic device to facilitate continuous removal of fluid and blood products from, and simultaneous drying of, the interior surfaces of the intramedullary canal. An elongate tubular member having a central bore is installed on the nozzle of a bone cement injection gun and conducts bone cement through its central bore. A fluid flow passageway, isolated from the central bore, extends from the distal end to the proximal end of the tubular member. A fluid inlet at the distal end is connected to a source of vaccum and a porous absorbent pad surrounds a fluid inlet at the distal end of the tubular member. The pad is received in the intramedullary canal and swells when moisture is absorbed. A resilient generally conical-shaped pressurizing plug slidably mounted on the exterior of the tubular member forms a seal on the opening at the proximal end of the intramedullary cavity.

Dynamic External Fixator And Method Of Use

US Patent:
4628919, Dec 16, 1986
Filed:
Sep 9, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/530608
Inventors:
Terry A. Clyburn - Houston TX
International Classification:
A61F 504
US Classification:
128 92ZK
Abstract:
A dynamic external fixator is disclosed which is designed to be applied externally along side the wrist by way of elongated bone fixation pins. The fixator includes two elongated legs connected by a universal joint. The proximal leg includes a series of holes for receipt of the bone fixation pins and associated threaded retainers to retain the bone fixation pins in the desired orientations. The distal leg includes a pistoning device which allows adjustability of the length thereof and further includes at least one set screw which reciprocates in a slot formed in the leg to enable the adjustment of the extension of the pistoning device thereof. The distal leg further includes a series of holes which receive the elongated bone fixation pins and further includes threaded members usable to maintain the bone fixation pins in a desired orientation. The universal joint includes means associated therewith which enables adjustment of the degree of movement of the proximal leg with respect to the distal leg and may also include means for indicating the degree of range of movement allowed in various adjusted positions thereof.

Antibiotic Microspheres For Treatment Of Infections And Osteomyelitis

US Patent:
2004013, Jul 8, 2004
Filed:
Sep 5, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/655639
Inventors:
Catherine Ambrose - Houston TX, US
Terry Clyburn - Houston TX, US
Antonios Mikos - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
A61K038/14, A61K031/545, A61K009/26
US Classification:
424/469000, 514/008000, 514/200000, 514/035000
Abstract:
Biodegradable microspheres implanted, injected, or otherwise placed totally or partially within the body are capable of near-linear controlled release of an antibiotic for a predetermined period of time for the treatment and prevention of infections involving the body. The microspheres are formed of polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and an effective amount of antibiotic sufficient to produce bactericidal levels in body tissues, and may or may not include polyethylene glycol (PEG). The microspheres exhibit near-linear delivery of the antibiotic for at least 4 weeks at levels exceeding the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for organisms commonly found to be the cause of infections.
