Ink Jet Ink Composition

US Patent:
6638350, Oct 28, 2003
Filed:
Apr 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/120867
Inventors:
Susan Hardin Butler - Lexington KY
Jing X. Sun - Lexington KY
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
C09D 1102
US Classification:
106 3128, 106 3158, 106 3186, 106 3149, 106 3178, 106472
Abstract:
The invention provides an ink composition having improved printing performance. The ink composition includes an ink vehicle, from about 0. 1 to about 10% by weight self-dispersed ink pigment, from about 0. 1 to about 10% by weight dye, a humectant, and a penetrant, wherein the weight ratio of ink pigment to dye ranges from greater than about 0. 75:1 to less than about 2. 5:1. Such ink compositions exhibit substantially improved permanence, decreased drying time, and high optical density compared to ink compositions containing only ink pigment or dye.

Aqueous Cyan Inkjet Ink Composition Containing A Mixture Of A Self-Dispersed Pigment And A Specific Cosolvent Mixture

US Patent:
8372898, Feb 12, 2013
Filed:
Mar 29, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/433327
Inventors:
Rahel Bekru Bogale - Lexington KY, US
Susan Hardin Butler - Lexington KY, US
Ann P. Holloway - Lexington KY, US
Qi Yin - Lexington KY, US
Agnes Kam Zimmer - Lexington KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
C09D 11/10
US Classification:
523160, 524377
Abstract:
The invention relates to an aqueous cyan inkjet ink composition for use in ink jet printers comprising an aqueous carrier, a self dispersed cyan pigment, a polymeric additive, a surfactant, and a specific cosolvent mixture comprising a C-Cterminal alkanediol, a cyclic amide compound and its derivative, a polyol/polyalkylene oxide condensate, and a trihydric alcohol. Preferably, the self dispersed cyan pigment is surface modified with bisphosphonate group. The cyan inkjet ink demonstrates excellent stability, superior chroma, good printhead maintenance characteristics and high heater reliability in permanent and semi permanent printheads.

Ink Jet Ink With Improved Reliability

US Patent:
6863719, Mar 8, 2005
Filed:
Dec 30, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/334155
Inventors:
Susan H. Butler - Lexington KY, US
Meagan C. Winkler - Lexington KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
C09D011/00, C09D011/02
US Classification:
106 3128, 106 3148, 106 3149, 106 3152, 106 316
Abstract:
An ink composition comprising: a self-dispersing carbon black, a binder, a stabilizing dye comprising at least as many groups comprising COH or COSH as groups comprising SOH, and an aqueous vehicle. The stabilizing dye can improve the reliability and performance of the ink composition. The addition of the stabilizing dye can reduce or prevent the formation of material that blocks the printhead vias and throats as a result of the presence of a binder in the ink. The ink composition can reduce the amount of maintenance needed to retain all of a printhead's nozzles through the life of the printhead.
