Traction Force Sensing Vacuum Extractor

US Patent:
6355047, Mar 12, 2002
Filed:
Aug 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/365658
Inventors:
William Dean Wallace - Murray UT
Richard A. Dixon - Murray UT
Steven R. Smith - Murray UT
Christopher A. Cutler - Murray UT
Assignee:
Clinical Innovations - Murray UT
International Classification:
A61B 1742
US Classification:
606123, 606122
Abstract:
A vacuum extractor for use in childbirth is described. The vacuum extractor includes a handle and a vacuum cup with a force sensor coupled to the vacuum extractor. The force sensor measures the traction force applied between the vacuum cup and the handle for assisting the birthing attendant in applying an appropriate traction force. The force sensor may also include a slipping mechanism which causes the length of the force sensor to distinctly increase if the applied traction force exceeds a certain level such as twenty pounds. Thus, the birthing attendant may feel the slipping and thus determine that the traction force has exceeded the certain value.

Systems And Methods For Financial Reimbursement

US Patent:
2008004, Feb 21, 2008
Filed:
Jul 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/460623
Inventors:
Steven B. Smith - Holladay UT, US
Nicholas A. Thomas - Orem UT, US
International Classification:
G07F 19/00
US Classification:
705 30
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a financial software module or process for tracking, allocating, documenting, and facilitating the reimbursement of expenses. The module or process includes budgeting, incurring, recording, and tracking expenses, allocating expenses for reimbursement, documenting expenses, and facilitating the reimbursement of the expenses. The initial receipt of expenses may occur automatically or manually, and expenses are tracked more easily as the expenses may be entered and tracking may begin as soon as the expenses are incurred. Documentation of received and tracked expenses may be provided and linked to the tracked expenses. Because expenses may be tracked and documented immediately upon incurring the expenses, the reimbursement of the expenses is facilitated and accelerated. The module or process works equally well with cash expenditures, and allows for the continual monitoring of budgets from multiple accounts to prevent unknowing overspending beyond budgeted amounts.

Methods And Systems For Early Fraud Protection

US Patent:
2008028, Nov 20, 2008
Filed:
May 15, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/749135
Inventors:
Steven B. Smith - Holladay UT, US
Nicholas A. Thomas - Orem UT, US
Warren Rosner - South Jordan UT, US
Jay Brett McCleary - West Valley City UT, US
International Classification:
G06Q 40/00
US Classification:
705 35
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide for improved early detection of fraud through user-defined monitoring of financial account information and communication of alerts and notifications of user-defined individualized potentially-fraudulent account activity to users. Embodiments of the invention permit an account fraud detection service provider to provide account monitoring services. The user may use the fraud detection service provider to monitor any number and type of financial accounts, and the user may define account notification rules or filters under which the user may choose to be notified of certain potentially-fraudulent account activities. The user may receive alerts and/or notifications of the user-selected account activities using a method selected by the user, and may therefore maintain awareness of account activities and be alerted of any troubling activity in a manner most convenient and effective for the user's needs.

Maneuverable Fetal Vacuum Extraction For Use With Malpresenting Fetus

US Patent:
6059795, May 9, 2000
Filed:
Nov 30, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/203003
Inventors:
William Dean Wallace - Salt Lake City UT
Richard A. Dixon - Salt Lake City UT
Steven R. Smith - Salt Lake City UT
Christopher A. Cutler - Centerville UT
Assignee:
Clinical Innovations - Murray UT
International Classification:
A61B 1742
US Classification:
606123
Abstract:
The fetal contact cup portion of a fetal vacuum cup has an inside surface which, when applied to a fetal head, defines a fetal contact chamber with the fetal head. One end of a tube is attached to the fetal contact cup such that vacuums within the tube are applied within the fetal contact cup. The other end of the tube can be connected with a vacuum source and with a handle. The tube has a very small average outside diameter compared with conventional fetal vacuum tubes. Thus the fetal vacuum cup is less intrusive during insertion and is more easily maneuverable, especially when the fetus is malpresenting in, for example, the high occipitoposterior or high occipitolateral positions. The average outside diameter of the tube may be, for example, less than 150 mils and has a finger grip that compression fits into a recess defined by the outer surface of the fetal contact cup for a lower profile and easy positioning of the fetal contact cup onto the flexion point of the fetal head. During traction, however, the finger grip pulls out of the recess for more efficient traction.
