US Patent:
2009009, Apr 16, 2009
Filed:
Oct 1, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/286710
Inventors:
Steven J. Derrick - West Mifflin PA, US
Joyce A. Derrick - West Mifflin PA, US
International Classification:
A61F 5/37
US Classification:
128870
Abstract:
A hands free, external airway position support device for use on a patient undergoing a surgical, therapeutic and/or diagnostic procedure. The device adheres to the patient at the base of his or her chin, jaw or neck so that no wrap around neck or head sling attachment means are required. When installed, the device will extend the patient's neck and maneuver his or her chin upward and outward, away from the base of the neck. As this device will be relatively inexpensive to manufacture and not overly complicated, it can be disposed of after use rather than requiring sterilization for reuse.

Filed:
Nov 23, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/304065
Inventors:

International Classification:
A61B 5/08, A61M 16/04, A61M 16/00
US Classification:
600529
Abstract:
What is presented is an apparatus for visually determining whether respiration is occurring comprising a strip of material having a first side and a second side in which the first side has a layer of thermally sensitive material which undergoes a color change when exposed to a temperature variance caused by a subject's respiration. The thermally sensitive material could be a thermochromic liquid crystal compound. The second side could have a layer of adhesive which could be used to adhere the strip of material in the vicinity of the subject's upper lip. A nasal prong upwardly protrudes from the main body portion and is positioned for insertion into a nostril of the subject to collect nasally exhaled breath. An oral conduit passage is embedded in a deflector/concentrator plate that extends downwardly from the main body portion. The straight conduit passages of the nasal and oral passages are connected to and aligned in the same plane whereby the opposed nasal and oral conduit passages are connected with the conduit passage of the suction port without any adjacent connected void volumes or dead spaces in any of the passages.
