Dr. Mays believes in a holistic approach to psychiatric assessment and treatment. Diagnostic formulations and medication evaluations are certainly an important aspect of acute inpatient psychiatric treatment and are part of my treatment evaluation. He respects both the efficacy and limitations of psychopharmacology, and find that ? depending on diagnostic picture - medications can be a helpful component of psychiatric care. Dr. Mays also feel that working to understand a patient?s present experience and their stressors, combined with developing a more longitudinal picture of their life, are often profoundly helpful to forming a therapeutic alliance and inform a well developed and individualized treatment plan. He is influenced by mindfulness-based behavioral therapies and work to incorporate these skill sets into my interventions on the inpatient unit.
