Segmented Centerbody For A Double Annular Combustor

US Patent:
5375420, Dec 27, 1994
Filed:
Aug 12, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/105772
Inventors:
Stephen W. Falls - Cincinnati OH
Hubert S. Roberts - Cincinnati OH
James N. Cooper - Hamilton OH
Stephen E. Melton - West Chester OH
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
F02C 700
US Classification:
60747
Abstract:
A double annular combustor having concentrically disposed inner and outer annular combustors is provided with inner and outer domes. A centerbody is disposed between the inner and outer domes and is constructed of a plurality of annular segments. Each segment includes an upper wall, a lower wall, an upstream wall and a downstream end. The upper and lower walls include flanges extending therefrom to form cavities, within which are cooling holes. Pins are also provided which extend between the upper and lower walls of the centerbody to augment the cooling and structural connection thereof.

Gas Turbine Engine Assembly And Method Of Assembling Same

US Patent:
2006012, Jun 8, 2006
Filed:
Dec 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/006925
Inventors:
Thomas Wakeman - Frankfort OH, US
Stephen Melton - West Chester OH, US
Michael Murphy - Loveland OH, US
International Classification:
F01D 3/04
US Classification:
415104000
Abstract:
A method for assembling a gas turbine engine assembly, including a gas turbine engine, a power turbine coupled to the gas turbine engine, and a thrust bearing coupled to the power turbine. The method includes coupling a first annular portion having a first radius to the power turbine, coupling a second annular portion having a second radius to the thrust bearing, wherein the first radius is different than the second radius, and coupling a plurality of structural members between the first and second portions such that the thrust assembly has a substantially frusto-conical shape.

Supercore Sump Vent Pressure Control

US Patent:
7836675, Nov 23, 2010
Filed:
Feb 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/358252
Inventors:
Bala Corattiyil - Montgomery OH, US
Stephen Eugene Melton - West Chester OH, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 7/06
US Classification:
60 3908, 184 611
Abstract:
An active air pressure control apparatus for a bearing sump cavity in a gas turbine engine includes a bearing assembly supporting a rotatable shaft that connects a rotatable power turbine and a rotatable compressor. The active air pressure control apparatus also includes a sump cavity surrounding the bearing assembly, a sump pressurization cavity in flow communication with a source of pressurized air and in flow communication with the sump cavity, and a sump vent tube in flow communication with the sump cavity and an air/oil separator. The active air pressure control apparatus includes an adjustable valve in the sump vent tube, and a controllable blower in flow communication with the sump vent tube.

Gas Turbine Engine Assembly And Method Of Assembling Same

US Patent:
7546742, Jun 16, 2009
Filed:
Dec 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/006924
Inventors:
Thomas George Wakeman - Frankfort OH, US
Peter Walter Mueller - Morrow OH, US
Stephen Eugene Melton - West Chester OH, US
Michael Todd Summers - Simpsonville SC, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 7/20
US Classification:
60796, 60791
Abstract:
A method of reducing gas turbine engine distortion includes coupling a core gas turbine engine to a power turbine, coupling the power turbine to a thrust bearing support assembly through a frusto-conically shaped structural support such that the net axial thrust of the coupled core gas turbine engine and power turbine reacts through the thrust bearing support assembly at engine centerline to facilitate minimizing distortion of the core gas turbine engine casing, and supporting the thrust bearing support assembly such that all of the remaining thrust generated by the core gas turbine engine and the power turbine is reacted to ground.
