Anesthetic Scavenging Hood

US Patent:
5370110, Dec 6, 1994
Filed:
Aug 31, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/938366
Inventors:
Stephen B. Corn - Boston MA
Assignee:
Children's Medical Center Corporation - Boston MA
International Classification:
A62B 1704
US Classification:
12820122
Abstract:
An anesthesia scavenging hood is adapted to fit over the head of a surgical patient and to prevent the contamination of operating rooms with waste anesthetic vapor and nitrous oxide gas. The hood enables placement of an endotracheal tube or other breathing or anesthesia circuit into the patient's airway. The hood may be sealed about the endotracheal tube and about the patient. The hood also includes a port having disposed therein a suction tube which communicates waste vapor and gas out of the hood and outside of the operating room with the aid of a vacuum source.

Anesthesia Docking Station

US Patent:
5468230, Nov 21, 1995
Filed:
May 12, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/242031
Inventors:
Stephen B. Corn - Boston MA
Assignee:
Children's Medical Center Corporation - Boston MA
International Classification:
A61M 532
US Classification:
604110
Abstract:
A catheter docking system is provided that is easily affixed to a patient and that facilitates the secure connection of an infusion line to an anesthesia-delivering catheter. The system comprises a docking station having an adapter mounted thereon. The adapter incudes a first port adapted to communicate with an infusion line and a second port adapted to communicate with an anesthesia-delivering catheter. A valve device may be provided to regulate the flow between the first and second ports. In addition, the system preferably has associated with the docking station a device for relieving any tensile strain on the catheter line.

Method And Apparatus For Testing Anethesia Machine Valves

US Patent:
5385139, Jan 31, 1995
Filed:
May 24, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/066719
Inventors:
Stephen B. Corn - Boston MA
International Classification:
G01M 302
US Classification:
12820024
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for testing flow control valves is disclosed. Specifically, the flow control valves of anesthesia machines are tested. The method contemplates the application of positive and negative air pressure to the valve being tested. If the valve is functioning properly, the valve will open or seal as expected. An apparatus is disclosed which enables a technician to apply either negative or positive pressure to the flow control valve and determine whether the valve is opening and sealing properly. The apparatus includes a pump for creating the air pressure and a fitting adapted to sealingly engage the port of the valve. The apparatus is simple to use and reduces the risk of transmitting disease.

Anesthesia Circuit Stand

US Patent:
5577693, Nov 26, 1996
Filed:
Jan 11, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/371019
Inventors:
Stephen B. Corn - Boston MA
Assignee:
Children's Medical Center Corporation - Boston MA
International Classification:
F16M 1100
US Classification:
2481761
Abstract:
An anesthesia circuit stand is able to support an anesthesia circuit fitting, when not attached to a patient or to a patient airway securement device in such a manner that anesthesia vapor and nitrous oxide is prevented from escaping into the environment of an operating room. The stand includes a base portion to which is connected a stalk element. The stalk can be substantially in the form of a cone having a proximal end with a greater diameter than a distal end. Alternatively, the stalk can be in the shape of a generally cylindrical rod. A distal end of the stalk includes a plug portion which has a diameter sufficient to engage the inner diameter of an outlet orifice of an anesthesia circuit elbow in a frictional fit.
